How to prevent IP port from being stolen?

I kept getting my IP address being used and changed.Sometimes I get a slow connection all of a sudden.

Please help me how to prevent them and ways to block it.

    Fyi:I use windows vista^______^

I searched the net but I don't have any clues where to start first.

Are you working on a shared connection with other users?

Do you use firewall? If not, you should consider to use one. I've been using Zone Alarm since forever, it's an excelent firewall, I never had problems.

I am unsure if Zonealarm is a solution to this (firewalls setting IP configurations.. hmm..). I am asking on another board.. though it might just end up with cuss words and topic derailing..

    edit:

from people who actually know what they are talking about:

    **
If you mean the local IP, you can set it from the router preferences or directly from your OS by assigning a static IP address.

If you are referring to a WAN (internet) ip address, you would need to request one from your ISP. Some allow configuration of static addresses via their web interface for free, but some charge for this as it's considered a more "business-centric" feature that consumer broadband packages will often not include by default.
    **

So yeh stay away from Zonealarm, it is not needed and look into making a static IP since it is local IP you are asking about

The only possibility is if there are more pc's on the LAN and one of them has the same ip in fixed mode. Since vista and the router have already a firewall I don't think this ip spoofing.
