Hmm... o.o
It's possible the video codec used to play the video isn't actually on your computer.
Try downloading this:
CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack
(Download the 32-bit CCCP and install that!)
It will install some video codecs for your computer, that will allow it to view some videos. ^^ See if that works for you!
I installed it like you said, but still nothing happens. I don't mind skipping the intro, but the problem is that I can't skip and and now it's just a black screen and frozen. I can't pprogress through the game.
No worries! ^_^ It was always worth a try.
(Mine seems to also be blanking out for some reason. XP;; But I managed to skip mine).
Here's a save file in slot 30, just after the video at the word "Death."

Extract the files into the SAVE folder of Togainu no Chi, and you should be able to load it. ^^
I hope this works for you!
I was wondering if its possible to play togainu for the windows 10, I can play both DMMD and DMMD Reconnect on it but back when I windows 7 I couldn't get it to work...T_TT_T
Togainu no Chi is somewhat playable on Windows 10, but it's hit or miss as to whether it will work for you.
A greater portion of people can't save or load, and another portion can't get passed the intro video.
I'm sure that's one of the reasons why Nitro+CHiRAL re-released the game.
You could look into Windows virtualization, where you run an older copy of Windows (Like Windows XP) inside Windows 10 itself. I haven't done it myself, yet, but a lot of people can do it. If you plan on keeping that Windows XP Virtual machine on your computer for more than 30 days, though, you'll need to have a Windows XP license.
Hey I was really looking forward to playing but after installing just as said nothing happened please help...:(T_T
There's a slim chance it'll start working, but it's worth a try I suppose? ^^
First things first, your computer's System Unicode Locale is set to Japanese, right? This isn't the system language, but a special function that allows Japanese letters to be displayed properly.
Second, where did you install TnC? Would you be able to provide a screenshot?
Lastly, where did you grab the files for the game, and did you follow any guide for installation?
I'm having this problem (sorry I don't know if it is inappropriate to post this here) I am unable to run the togainu no chi game, even before I patch it. When I run it in administrator nothing ever pops up. Very confused :(
Hello eremika0000! ^_^
Were you able to install the game, or was that what not popped up?
If you did manage to install the game, and you can't get the game to start without patching, that is entirely because of the game's AntiPiracy code embedded in the EXE. Windows 7, 8, and 10 can no longer run the unpatched version of the game, as Microsoft has deemed it's AntiPiracy program to be an issue. (It just outright won't run at all).
I have a thorough guide for how to install Togainu no Chi here:
https://aarinfantasy.com/forum/f49/t...ml#post4390495
You will need to apply the patches to the game before using the NoCD version of the EXE, but if you follow the guide it should help getting it installed properly.
However, I cannot guarantee if the game will work for you. :( The game is so old now (Over 15 years old!), that Nitro+CHiRAL outright remade the game to work in newer versions of Windows. The downside is that the newer version hasn't been hacked yet.
If you do try to play the older version of TnC, there is a huge chance that you won't be able to see the intro video, and the game won't let you save/load.
@xabbysucksx;
The cancel is when you try to end the task using Task manager.
1. Hit Ctrl Alt Delete
2. Select Task Manager
3. Right click on the game application task, select End task
4. when you select, it will prompt you 'hey are you sure you want to End this task?'
5. then you hit Cancel cuz you weren't sure ;)
this used to work for me, but it's been a while since i tried it.
hope that helps.
I downloaded it from piratebay and was able to get it to the main screen but as soon as I tried to run the game it just shuts off.
You say you tried to run the game... was what you downloaded the entire game already pre-installed? Or did you install the game yourself?
Could you please post some screenshots of the files you downloaded?
Also, don't forget that your System Unicode Locale needs to be set to Japan!

Hey guys, I'm a little late to the party, but I had given up on this game three years ago when I just couldn't get it to install on my laptop. Yesterday I was able to successfully install the game on my Surface using the NoCD version posted earlier (you are a life saver and I love you) and the game finally runs smoothly...only, it's still in Japanese, even though I installed the English patch. I searched through the thread before deciding to post, but it's entirely possible I missed something (I'm still lost on using this Surface, so even a simple task like searching is a struggle...). If someone would be so lovely, as you all have been so far, and point me in the right direction to get this baby going, I'd be eternally grateful!
Welcome aboard, Obakehime! ^_^
I have an idea of what it could be, but before I rule that out as an option, could you please take a screenshot of the folder where you installed Togainu no Chi?

It should look VERY similar to mine in terms of number of files and file sizes. (Ignore the fact that I have a script.pak.bak file, it's a backup of the original. You don't need it. Also, my EXE isn't the NoCD version, so it's filesize is also wrong.)
Afterwards, we'll go from there. ^^
Since the Surface is a tablet, it uses Solid State for it's "hard drive". It might be the case that files are read and accessed in a "First in, first out" basis for this system. Which in turn means that the English patches won't be red before the game's own files (which is how it should be on a normal computer).
We'll see how your files are first.
There is a slightly better chance of it working. ^_^ As long as you haven't done any Windows Updates for a few years, and don't go online to visit very questionable sites very often.
My old Windows 7 install worked fine with TnC up until I converted it to Windows 10. (It still sorta works for me, but now I have a weird video codec issue where I can't see videos played in games. XP Stupid CCCP.)
Go ahead and try it there!
Here's a step-by-step instruction for how to download, setup, and install Togainu no Chi:

hello, im so sorry i never got back my main computer crash and then i got busy with school and work. So I tried to install TNC on my Windows 7 computer and it seem to install with no problem but now when i try and open the game i get this
Attachment 175025
I tried to open it with applocale, via admin and my computer us change to japanese locale and this still keeps popping up...I'm not sute what im doing wrong
So I came upon this thread after installing TNC on my win10 laptop and problems were abound, first was the default installation directory, which was fixed easily enough. The second issue was the saving/loading issue, I tried all the shamanic methods detailed in this thread to no great success. I am now running TNC on my linux desktop happily! So I will now give my opinion on the tips that worked (on windows or on linux on both).
Changing the default installation directory and applying the english patch makes the in-game options menu english whereas before only the in-game text was english, this affected both linux and windows! It also allows additional files to be installed by the engpatch, I recommend this. Changing compatibility mode did nothing for me. Right-clicking the preview window froze the menu and did nothing. Only gripe I have with running it in linux is the text output isn't smooth like on windows but comes in block by block, not a big price to pay for actually playing the game.
Hello. Whenever I try to download this game, I get an error message saying that it is not in the correct directory or does not have the right file name. I tried uninstalling the game, but it does not work and gives me an error message in Japanese (and I cannot read Japanese). I'm not really sure what to do.
Would it be possible to make a sticky thread in the main Game Tech Center, to summarize all the solutions found in this thread? I see there are lots of people who experience problems with this game. It would be useful to have a sort of troubleshooting guide as a permanent thread.
As far as I see, there are some things that must be done to avoid almost any problem with the game:
1) Change system locale to Japanese (always required before installing)
2) Don't install game on C:/Program Files
3) Disable antivirus while installing and playing (I've experienced this with AVG, which blocks the .exe, so the game won't launch at all)
4) Always play the game with the ISO mounted on Daemon Tools, or use the No-CD patch for newer systems
5) For users of Win 10, follow the instructions in this thread to fix the freezing while loading/saving game.
What I haven't found yet, is a solution for the intro video not playing or freezing (other than deleting the mpeg.pak file). I'm playing in Win XP and it just skips the video entirely. Installing the CCCP or K-Lite codecs didn't help either.
Has anyone tried to do a portable version? Maybe this will solve the problem with system compatibility and freezing?:?
To be honest I got really tired of the compatibility issues (like freezing and stuff) and ended up just installing a virtual machine running windows xp and installed the game there. I had no issues again lol
did the same lol (btw portable doesn't resolve the problem)
all hail virtual machines!
