Slow Download

Hi

I have a fast DSL connection. I usually download at 250-300kbs. This didn't syart until this morning. This gose for host sites as well as DDL servers. I start a download and it only goes as high as 29-30kbs. Its taking 1 hour for a file that;s less thasn a 100mb. Is there anyway to go about fixing this. any help will do.

As far as I know, you can't change your download rate. (that being said I'm not a very technical person) The download speed on your side only allows you a special bitrate. Like for example having DSL 1000 you are only allowed to download 128 kb/s. But, if the server you want to download from only gives you 30 kb/s - even your account can't change that.
I think, I remember some program to change your download / upload radio. Like instead of 128 kb/s dl and 14 kb/s ul you can have 140 kb/s dl and 2 kb/s ul. But that won't change the connection to the server.
I for example have the problem at night. In the morning I'm able to get like 1.4 mb/s. In the evening (I suspect hostsites being full of US people ) I get like 60 kb/s dl-speed.
I think, you just need to find out your "time" and look for better hostsites / servers to dl.

Also, it could be an ISP issue - area server issue, maintenance, internet shaping (reduce the download rate for some areas or users during a certain time of the day). You could check by going to your ISP's website status page or they should have a free automated status check line you could phone.

most sites also have controlled bandwidth the more people that are downloading from the sight the slower everyones DL become and so on and so forth. it that is not the case it could be due to limited pc resources try freeing up some memory start up items and try not to multitask as much when you are DL and it will usually dl alot faster.
