Windows Live Messenger spam

Hi guys! Need help!
I got spam messages on my messenger
How do I prevent them?
My privacy setting is allow only my contacts

PS. I also got a spam from one of the aariner that I added. I don't think she's spamming me but why did it happen?

Generally I think it's caused by a virus or trojan of some sort. The virus sends links and/or files to others in the affected person's contact list with some sort of random spam message. If you open the link/download the file the virus is passed onto your computer and it goes on to spread from there, and you won't know it cause the virus does this while you're offline or when your computer is off.

Only suggestion I have is to inform the affected people so they can clear the virus off their system, and make sure you don't open the links/download the files.

I also get a spam from unknown person who is hot on my list

Yeah I get those too, but generally I just make sure I don't open links or download files from messages that seem like they come from a virus infected messenger and/or people I don't know/are not on my contact list.

I just sent her a message. I guess there is no permanent solution then

I hate those... your friend is not doing it on purpose. Just make sure not to open it and let them know they have it. If they're lucky, they can fix it by just changing their password through hotmail otherwise they might have to try to remove it or even reformat depending on the severity of the situation.

EDIT: Block the person who you don't have on your contacts. That should stop them
