Avast Antivirus/Spybot Search & Destroy problem

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right section, if not please move it to the correct one.

I just updated to the new version of Avast! Antivirus Home edition and it suddenly started saying that it had detected a virus in Spybot Search & Destroy.

After nearly 45 minutes on the phone with my brother who is a computer tech, I ended up deleting Spybot off my computer completely and sending a report to Avast after exhausting every viable option.

I no longer have any problems.

Just thought I would give anyone who uses this combination of Antivirus and Spyware removal a heads up.

thank you for this!!! will be deleting spybot....ill find a better spyware

Was the virus Win32:Delf-MZG? If so, this is a known problem with the most recent Avast (see also here). In other words, it's a false positive and there is nothing wrong with Spybot (or Skype or any of the other myriad programs in which the current version of Avast is mis-detecting this virus). Just exclude the file(s) involved from being scanned by Avast for the time being, and if you haven't updated Avast in the past 48 hours, don't do so until this is fixed.

Yeah, that's the one. I already checked the link you posted and everything works fine now. In any case, thanks for the help. I'll pass this info on to my brother as well just in case he hadn't already found it.

So I wasn't the only one

I have Avast and Spybot S&D in my PC so when I bought my Laptop last friday I installed both things, I was up until 1:00 am trying to figure out the whole thing (I seriously thought I had messed up the laptop) problem is I wasn't able to remove spybot from the laptop, I ended up reformatting it and starting from scratch

no spybot = no problem.

Thanks for the info, ellidell, I think I'll skip spybot for now.
