Download Managers?

Hey all,

I've been wondering, has anyone of you ever have problems with direct downloading (especially really big files). Sometimes when I download files, the speed on hosts sites are really slow, and worst of all, it gets interrupted mid session and the download ends without properly downloading the whole file. The file will not be gone, but when I extract it, it comes with an error prompt from winzip telling me that the file is corrupted or not properly downloaded. It really gets on my nerves because I want to download BL Doujin games (which are not seeded on torrent)...

Any suggestions?

I read from some place that suggests the use of a download manager, but can I really resume my files after I shut down my PC or when my connection fluctuates or maybe gets interrupted?

Yes--that's one of the things a download manager is for. A good one will resume the download where it left off when the connection got interrupted/you went offline, and will keep on trying until it gets the entire file. I used to make fairly heavy use of Free Download Manager (and before that, of Octopus, but I don't recommend that one unless you really understand what you're doing), back when I was on a dial-up line.

A couple of things, though: First of all, generic download managers will not necessarily work for file storage sites like megaupload, rapidshare, etc.--you may need something specifically put out by those sites to download from them. Secondly, a lot of download managers will allow you to split your downloads into multiple parts to be downloaded simultaneously, but this can get you banned from some sites, so be very careful about using that kind of functionality.

Oh yay thanks for the link, I tried to use Internet Download Manager 5.18, it works with MU direct download =D

I'm using MegaManager (from Megaupload) myself and it works fine, but I think I heard from either angerbda or stupidgirlang that JDownloader is safer to use

I've been using jdownloader lately after one of those sites gave me trouble reading their captcha (while the in-software captcha utility usually bypasses them fine, really sad lol).

hiya Myuuchan. I've been using Internet Download Manager, which is the most stable download manager that i've been using from those crap unstable download manager.
Try it, i'm sure u are happy with it.

Oh if u want, when u finished install it, u can update the newest version too. Its free.

To use it:
Just click right and choose 'Download with IDM' if u wanna download something yah.
