Services like YouSendIt are the easiest ones to use. But they're not the only ones. I'll try to make you a complete list, thou I'm rushing to class, so excuse the typos.
EDIT: I'm updating with new services and re-organizing them in (a lousy) order of preference.
For sites similar to YouSendIt: YouSendIt -
http://www.yousendit.com
Is the awesome one which hosts files up till 1gb. Just like the others I'm listing bellow (lol, sorry, i'm copying what i wrote on another post... XD), it's not perfect, some people can't connect to it sometimes and there's a limit of downloads: they last for 7 days or till 25 dls are made, which comes first. But they're quite reliable.
MegaUpload -
http://www.megaupload.com (former
YouShareIt)
OGM, they changed the YouSendIt copycat visuals! XD Now accepts files up to 250 mb. Files stay on the server forever and can have unlimited dls. I experienced some problems accessing the site some times, speed is a bit slow, but it's nice... =p
RapidShare -
rapidshare.com
File size limit is 300 mb. I used some times for mp3 sharing, i think it's nice... It provides a dl link and a del link, you can just share the dl link, so no fear of ppl deleting your stuff without your consent. There's no dl limit, but you have to click on "free" to download, then you're put on queue (in case their dl slots are full). The following page keeps showing a countdown counter, so you'll know how much time there is for your turn to dl. They delete the file if no one dls it in 30 days.
UploadHut -
uploadhut.com
I have no idea if this one is good or not... no sign up or account required. claims to accept any files up to 50 mb. They rename the file to numbers and create links aparently for image display on foruns, so it looks like the service is geared towards image hosting, but it accepts any file type.
Mytempdir -
mytempdir.com
Just found out this one. According to FAQ, no account is required, allows any file type till 50mb, and they're kept on the server for 14 days. You can password protect your files. After you upload, you're given a download link and a delete link, which also can be mailed to you. They don't mention dl limitations (but making some tests, they're kinda slow... or that's my connection's fault... ^^').
ShareBigFile - hxxp://www.sharebigfile.com
Just discovered this one due to a nice fella in the forum.
They don't explain their service very much, but it seems simple. Max file size allowed is 250 mb. DL limit is 250 times (i think). I tested and thought it's slow (thou, again, it could be my connection's fault) and has annoying popups.
Dropload - hxxp://www.dropload.com
It just works if you want to send files to only one person. You can upload anything, file size limit is 100 mb. Have to sign up for a free account. You specify some email to send the file, and the person has 7 days to pick it. I think they delete the file after one person completes the dl...
FilesUpload - hxxp://www.filesupload.com
Another one discovered by indication of that nice fella. Smile Requires account registration, but it's free. You get 100 mb of storage, but they say they increase this amount if you invite people to register. Hmm, 10 mb for each file, bleah... -_- Allows direct linking. Claims to have "no bandwidth or space limitation". Files stored don't expire. Still needs to be tested.
SendThisFile - hxxp://www.sendthisfile.com
This one also must only be useful if you wish to send files to one person. Didn't understand their features quite well yet, but also have to sign up for an account (there are free and paid plans). Free plan says there's no limit in filesize to upload. But the recipient has 3 days to dl it, and the file can be dl-ed only 3 times. Also, it wouldn't show a few pages correctly on Firefox, had to switch to IE to see them properly.
35MB - hxxp://www.35mb.com -
NOT RECOMMENDED
You gotta sign up for an account to upload stuff, but it's free. Allows adult content. As the name says, you can store 35 mb, but they claim to increase storage space each time someone dls from your account. Unfortunately, you can't download using other browsers besides IE, and to proceed to download, it requires an applet instalation that contains some malware, i think... So, have to be careful and have all anti-virus and anti-spywares ready to clean the mess after you dl. o.O'
Savefile File Hosting - hxxp://www.savefile.com/filehost/
Didn't have time to test yet. Site claims: filesize limit of 60mb, unlimited downloads and no sign up.
For other alternatives: Streamload - hxxp://www.streamload.com
It's quite known, so i don't think i need to explain... but just quick stuff... there's no limit of uploads, but with the free account, you're only allowed to dl 10 mbs per file, 100 mb per month. freeloaders can share with other streamload users only. other accounts are paid, and it looks like you can host files on them, meaning, you can kinda create "public links" to share your stuff with anyone on da intarweb. =p
Yahoo's Briefcase - hxxp://briefcase.yahoo.com
Has only 30 mb of storage, and each file can't go over 5 mb. anyone who has a yahoo mail has a briefcase. you can share with other yahoo users or send links for random ppl to dl your files via email (and in this case, the recipients' emails don't have to be yahoo's). BUT, since the upgrades in every yahoo mail (250 mb, and more recently, 1 gb) and the gmail era, this briefcase is going well obsolete... =p
Gmail and Yahoo! Mail
Very good alternatives, in my opinion. =p Max file size an email can have is 10 mb - meaning, you attach as much as you want till the mail reaches 10 mb. Since they both store sent emails, you can re-send emails any time someone requests something. But the recipient's gotta make sure their email accounts have enough space to receive big mails.
FTP and HTTP
If you have your own server/site/webspace, go ahead and use them, forumers will be happy. =p There's a thread that Dai-kun posted with a nice place to purchase an FTP account, if you're familiar with FTP sharing. Here's his topic, read the instructions cuz it's paid, but it's seems a good deal:
http://www.aarinfantasy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1657 IMs, Chats, P2P
Lol, sorry, i'm becoming each time more obvious... But it sure is an alternative. =p MSN, AIM, ICQ, IRC, Emule, Kazaa, Soulseek... You can chat with people and send files directly thru this and many other programs.
*deep sigh*
Well, those are my suggestions. XD Good luck with the sharing. In this forum, anything goes, just be friendly and understanding and everyone will be happy. =p
