What makes you feel old when you indulge in the yaoiness of it all?

As an older fan of yaoi and anime, I can't help but wince when I see a new member at Aarin, typing without punctuation and very stream of conscious, and I can't help but feel, 'I have nothing in common with this person.' Cept the yaoi thing. And it makes me feel a bit geezerish, I'll admit lol.

    Anyone else feeling this way?

Hmm, it doesn't really make me think about myself, so to speak; it more makes me wonder about the future of communication ... I have heard that in the very near future, there will be people who have never held a pen and don't know how to write properly.

I find it fascinating because I'm a dork like that

What makes me feel old is when I'm on tumblr, where the median age is about 13, and most 23 year olds still ACT 13.

They either complain about their parents (yes, still living with their parents in mid-20s) or ... and this is weird ... use derogatory terms towards one another, like "b!tch," like it's nothing.

It fascinates and horrifies me at the same time.

Pfff I have a tumblr, and yeah there's lots of stupid stuff on it. But I just post hard yaoi and my dash is loaded up with gay pornXDD
.....yeah I was just all kinds of casual about that

One thing lately though that is making me feel old are some of the discussion threads. I don't post as much as I used to when I'm here because some of it I just can't really relate to. I lack the patience to watch too many 'starter' type BL shows anymore. I know the plots. I already know the cut out characters and I know what's going to happen. Slash lately is holding more appeal. It takes a bit more detective work on my part and hey, it lets your imagination run wildXD

....totally rambling from my rocking chair here..... =_=

I agree; I haven't seen anything that came out from Junjou to Sekaiichi. So there was that Koisuru B... something ... and the one with the German and Japanese guy ... whatever But I like Nakamura Shungiku-sensei, so I watched the other two ... but even so, I didn't even finish watching Sekaiichi; I just read the manga. Never finished Junjou Season 2 after the Egoist episodes were done.

I'm tired of the strong aloof seme x blushing innocent uke dynamic. Yawn.

It's why I'm watching No. 6 right now and refusing to ship Nezumi x Sion; I do Sion x Nezumi because otherwise Nezumi's a jerk seme and Sion's a shota uke. Gross.

I feel old almost everywhere anime-related I go on the 'Net (the exception: rec.arts.anime.misc, but that's because most of the people still on Usenet were already there ten years ago. No new blood to speak of in recent years, but there are still people on there who've been fans longer than me). A couple of things that make me feel old with respect to yaoi fandom specifically:

Endless anime and manga with a (mundane) high school setting. Newcomers often gush over them, but I find them repetitive to the point of tediousness and would be quite happy to never see another. (I guess that's a more specific case of "starter series" ennui . . .)

Looking at young fan fiction writers happily slashing characters from whatever the popular anime series of the moment is . . . and then reflecting how many different values I've seen for "popular series of the moment". Naruto <- InuYasha <- Weiß Kruez <- Gundam Wing <- Ranma ½ . . . (Well, okay, some of those were approximate contemporaries, but You Know What I Mean.)

Part of the problem is that I've been in general anime fandom for . . . eh, must be pushing fifteen years now. Long enough to see several iterations of a lot of cycles. Next thing you know, I'll be running after the young'uns waving my cane and telling them to get off my lawn. ;P
