Well, first of all: I was only away for about one week, and now look, I had to scroll back for a freaking SIX PAGES to read everything you guys posted. Wow, this group is really active. Like Sas said, average IQ here must be way above 100 Back to topic: <quote mc denno>aid ask him, not jump him. Just ask if he's gay, like in a "I'm just curious" way and not in the "oh please be gay, cause when ever I see you pass I have a boner the size of a Sequoya"</quote> ROFL! That's a metaphor I'm going to remember, although I don't know what a sequoya is (but it sounds ... uh.. 'large' :P ). Well, I followed your advise, I just asked him whether he was attracted to guys. He ain't. But I can live with that. There are enough fish in the sea left (let's say, about 350 million gay guys on this planet :P). And Link, you really hadn't need to worry. He knows I'm gay (who doesn't?), so if he'd be homophobic he wouldn't go to the cinema with me, and he surely wouldn't be a friend of mine. About the philosophy thing: Someone here said that people disagree on what freedom is, but I think people even disagree more on what discrimination is. The laws (article 1 and 7 of the constitution) don't really state what freedom and discrimination are. For me, discrimination is really the excluding of people ('buitensluiten' in Dutch), but for somebody else it may also be saying hurtful things. And I do think freedom of speech is important. Would we have this discussion if freedom of speech didn't exist? I think not. Would there be any discussion if freedom of speech didn't exist? No. If you really think about it, discussion, politics, journalism and so on wouldn't exist if freedom of speech didn't exist. But that doesn't mean I like everything what people say. No, there are a dozen things where I have something like "Do you need to say that, even if that's what you're thinking?". However, provocation is sometimes even needed to bring a subject in the spotlight. @Mc denno: Yes, humankind is very competitive. But that's not always a bad thing. If it weren't for competitiveness, a lot of breakthroughs (whether it'd be social or scientific) wouldn't have been achieved. And, perhaps very paradoxically, without someone or something working against your, life would be very boring, wouldn't it? Let's put it this way:Would it be fun winning the lottery if you knew the chance of winning would be 100%? Or another example:You can't watch yaoi for a few months due to a very busy time at school. If you've finally completed the school things, watching yaoi will awesome. In fact, it would be a lot better than watching it if you hadn't had the school things. Your joy in watching yaoi will be enhanced by the oppressor, the school stuff in this case. People tend to think that all things 'bad' should be wiped off the face of the Earth, but that's actually wrong thinking. I think "bad" and "good" need to be in harmony with each other (as far as they can be defined, because bad and good can be very different for different people). A kind of YinYang, as to speak. Let's put it this way:People generally associate 'good' with the colour white, and 'bad' with black. Now, when watching stars, which are white (good), you need a black(bad) background to see them. Would the sky be white, you wouldn't see them. That's why you don't see the stars during the day, or near the moon. Even so, when you want to see a lot more stars than normal, you should not watch into the stars, but watch in the blackness around them . So 'good' needs 'bad', and 'bad' needs 'good'. And this applies to a lot of things. For instance, underground culture. Would underground culture exist without mainstream culture? No. I can't imagine being at a metal festival without making mainstream culture ridiculous (that's one of the things that make underground culture fun), but would this mainstream culture not exist, than there wouldn't be anything to make ridiculous. Rebellious music wouldn't exist without mainstream culture. Punk, metal, Gothic etc, all those subcultures wouldn't exist without mainstream culture. On the other hand, modern day mainstream culture also can't live without these subcultures. And this even applies to religions. Christianity can't live without Satan, for it needs a scapegoat. And Modern Satanism (NOT devils worship) can't live without Christianity, even though it's anti-christian. About another meeting:That would be soooooooo coowl. *me would love to come*. The Christmas vacation would be a nice time, because most people will have days off. But surely not on Christmas itself, most people will have family business those days. And would be do it this year, or in the first week of 2009? And then there is the question of where? @Sas... There already are children's books which have homosexuality in their themes. And Tango Makes Three is perhaps to most famous of them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/And_Tango_Makes_Three) but I don't know if that one is translated into Dutch. I shall try to find some titles (I think I know someone who has such books in Dutch) @Toran Haha, Dimmu Borgir at EO-jongerendag. It would be veeeery lol if they were to play there . But Dimmu certainly isn't the most anti-christian band in existence. Try Burzum (although that guy's a bit anti-everything :P). I love his music. It's so emotional, and even though it's pretty repetitive, it always has such unexpected twists. It's one of the most darkest and emotional bands I know.
^^ well we need someone who is willing to organise such an event (>> I'm sorry to say so, but I'm a terrible organiser XD. I'm good for advice and stuff, and starting things, but the executing... Oo I can't even organise my homework for peets sake) @10th a Sequoya is the biggest tree in the world it's truely massive and grows only in north america
I'm not very fond of organising either.... I don't know why, but whenever I organise something, no one ever comes. Maybe I just didn't pressure people enough to come >_< So I'll be saying it again. There will be a boekenfestijn on Thursday the 27th of November till that Sunday. I'll be there at 10 am. I cannot go later because I have class at 2 pm XD Whoever wants or can go are not forced to go.... I'll be there no matter who there is..... @10th plauge: that penguin tango book is amazing. I never knew some penguins were homosexual. I want to have that children's book now... I hope I can find it here in one of the book stores ^_^ Yeah funny thing you used the word Sequoya. It's a tree so it has that cylindrical form as a gigantic long phallus XD I don't think there is anything of a cylindrical shape that is larger than that on the entire planet XD
LOL, a boner the size of a tree. That must HURT for the bottom during sex . @ Link: about 30% of all penguins are homosexual. Homosexuality is very common in penguins. But not only in penguins. I've seen pictures of two male whales who were having sex (pretty gross actually, they have really huge penisses ). And that was in the museum. They had an exhibition about homosexuality in the animal kingdom a few months ago. Oh, and maybe I'll be going to the boekenfestijn. If I have the money to buy loads of books and manga's, that is. (I've made a deal with myself: I'll not step inside a bookstore before having read al my already purchased books (still one left, but I'll have read that one in a matter of days) )
And you are going to stay there for like four days OO boy you have stamina (j/k) I might come ... 27th of November... where was it again? (and it's more convenient for me to go on a Friday since I don't have classes then. But I might be able to come on a Thursday.. if I don't have any classes then)
It'll be at the RAI in 020 if I'm not mistaken.
sweet ^^ I'll see if I can manage
Oh great, so much competition for the books now >_< what if there will be only one set of junjou romantica there at the boekenfestijn. We will be like freaking maniacs pulling each others hairs to get that last copy....
Omg, 10 am, sure is early, i'm almost sure that i can't make it, but maybe we can arrange something:P
Sorry that I can't change the time at all or the date, I just want to be the first one, see...... And I have school later on, so I must shop very quickily or I'll risk going straight to school after it and dragging 20 kilo's of it up and down. Last time I went there I needed a couple of extra bags >_< but thank god they have extra strong plastic bags which are sealed with a strong black plastic wire. In case it gets wet or something. Or i have to ask someone along who can carry it for me ^_^ last year it was my sister lol, poor her, but we had a trolley so that's a solution too But don't mind me I'm getting a bit overexcited when I can buy things I like Oh don't forget about other books you can buy there, they have a wide selection of bestsellers and other fiction, and also fantasy novels for those who are interested....
