    Rukin
I regret to inform you of the death of my dear brother; Ray.
Sunday at about 2' o clock he died with his family beside him.
I'll miss him for the rest of my life...

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, Rukin...

So smth more nerd-like: I'm gonna whine about stupid story plots where you have a hero who has to face so many difficulties, but whenever it doesn't go right for him, a kind of 'uncle' figure appears. That one is an 'old and stonger wise' person. So whenever there is a problem he can resolve it anyway... I wished I had written down the name of those... Actually we could even speak of naruto->sasaki who always/almost always comes on time (well luckily not whole the time, they did a good job for the scenario). He always knows what to do in X situation...
I wished I had written down the names of those stories I'm talking about...

Muuuuh! nobody comes here anymore? Happy valentine/valentime anyway!
Oh and I found a better example for my post before: Natsume yuujinchou (don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it!!!) So Madara always arrives to save him whenever he's in a pinch.

I still come here I just felt awkward posting after this Rukin person ... I have no idea who s/he is, yet didn't know what to say

Happy Valentine's Day to you all

Oh, you are talking about the Wise Old Man archetype, i.e. Gandalf in LOTR or Dumbledore in Harry Potter. It's a tale as old as time I'm thinking of Bookman in D-Gray Man, too. Urahara in Bleach. They are rather quintessential, especially when the protagonist is a young person who has adventure thrust upon him/her.

I always like the stories where there's the older wise person to help out the young main character. Maybe it's because I've had a lot of older mentors in my job that I can relate. Plus I want to be that wise when I'm an old lady

hehe! When I was small I also wanted to become "wise"! It's funny to remember those dreams!
@artemis; I didn't know there was a 'name' for that kind of characters... I usually like them, but sometimes they're just annoying!
  8. Artemis Moonsong
    Artemis Moonsong
I don't know if that's the "official" name but it's the term we've used in class discussions

For whatever reason, I'm not really fond of that character type, but I understand how it's necessary for certain narratives to succeed. It seems like a "cheat" for the hero.

I'm reading 'the ravages of time' a manhua, 's fun, 'cause the scenario doesn't go like typical manga... Sometimes it's a bit frustrating though... although somewhat less commercial-ish (maybe it is for chinese ppl?)
and the main characters are sooo good! I had butterflies in my stomach for The Ravages Of Time-v13_c103_012.JPG->I keep my fav pages in an apart folder. I guess it's more striking when you read the whole stuff (btw is it allowed to post whole pages here?)
also it's absolutely not yaoi (pure boring seinen actually), but still only 'bout guyzzz! It's soooo slash-able!!

hey girls, i hope you dont mind a guy's opinion, but i think the appeal for me with yaoi, (besides the obvious) is that even in our privates lives men just dont emote like that, and its nice to see *somebody* dealing with the romantic side of a sexual relationship, some of my favorite yaoi's like Black Knight arent overtly graphic when depicting the sex, but focus more on the romance with the sex more like an afterthought. of course some of them i read just for the sex (sensitive pornograph anyone?)
