eMule [pretty much solved]

Ummm.... I have never used emule before can some one teach me how to use it.

I'm downloading a file now but I'm not sure if it is downloading. Is emule like BT, does it need to have seeds. How do I know if my file is being downloaded

Yes, it needs seeds aka sources. In the Transfer (or something, not running eMule right now so I can't remember..) window you see your downloads. They have a coloured bar. Red in bar means it is missing full source, the darker the blue on the other hand means the more sources for those parts of the file. Black means you have already downloaded that part of the file.

eMule works this way: You start downloads, get sources from server(s)/Kad/source exchange with other peers you have found, then you join the queues of the sources, and wait for upload slot. How long you wait depends on multiple things: Have you uploaded to that source, what priority source has for that file, how long their queue is and how fast their upload really is Sometimes it takes many hours for a download to start.

After you get a upload slot, you will usually download around 9.28 megs (the chunk size in eDonkey2000 network), after which you are thrown back to the queue to wait another upload slot.

You should also see your sources for downloads when double-clicking the download in question, it will expand the view so that you should see all sources you have and your queue positions with them.

So it doesnt automatically start to download. I have to find sources first.

Now I have a new problem I did that test thing with emule about the port connection or something but it didnt connect cause it said I had a firewall up but I dont, so I have a low ID.

I wanna test it again so how can I

you probably should manually disable the firewall.

If you have an antivirus which also provides firewall, you should check if it permits connections for eMule. (It can be changed in the antivirus' options/settings panel)

Look, what you likely have now is called LowID. Check the Server window for network information (also, the eMule icon in the tray should have a blindfold to signify LowID). Basically it means you don't have optimal connectivity to the network. You can and should still use eMule.

The only practical result of having LowID is that you can not connect to other LowID users, in other words you lose small part of sources. That's it, nothing major.
