is it illegal to download music, ost, drama and movies from the internet??

hey guys, I've always wanted to ask this, but is it illegal to download media files from the internet?? I know millions of ppl do it everyday all around the world, but what is legal and what is not?? Like in this website, ppl transfer files using host sites, does that mean the host/company gets paid since ppl upload/download it there??

Well, techincally, it would be illegal to share certain material here. The companies who produce the goods aren't getting paid for the stuff we upload and share here, since we're just distributing stuff for free between other people. That's why we encourage to buy the goods directly from the consumer to support the company.

It's internet, it's just something millions of people do. ^^;

This is probably not the best place to research this topic... In the sense that - you should probably try to find out what the laws are in your specific locality/country.

Opinions and technicalities may vary - you will get a lot of conflicting answers, because people here are from all over the world. Some laws may be enforced with more.. vigilance in some places, and not at all in others.

It is not the best place to post it here BECAUSE it makes the people of this site uncomfortable around the topic. Yes it IS illegal, and yes you WILL get in trouble if you as an individual are found downloading and sharing. I don't care what people say, it is a serious matter because I have a few friends who got their ass sued for uploading movies and letting others download it. But the chances of getting caught are pretty slim, that is why people do it.
