[HELP] My Date Setting is Messed Up

I opened my computer just now and suddenly my date and time settings reset to 2001, time 12:00 AM. When I tried to change the back, I found that my calendar setting for January has been changed. Rather than having 30th on Monday, it changed to 31st Jan, Monday.

I've tried synchronizing with internet time server but it didn't change anything.
How can this problem be fixed? (Note: I use Windows).

If you click on the Change time and date settings -> you get an extra window with right a clock and left a date calendar with Januari 2011 in your case in the top, if you click the Januari 2011 and then the list changes from day dates (1-30 (0 or 31) to a list of months with in top < 2011 > if you then click on the arrow next to 2011 you can skip back to 2012. Press OK and it is saved.

Dates resetting back to 2001 upon boot happens when the CMOS battery on your motherboard is running empty. You will get a message when you boot from your motherboard that the date or something had to be reset or not saved. I don't remember the full message.
Then in Windows you find out your date has been reset back to a much earlier year, around the 2000's.
If the date change happens again when you boot then you know you must replace the battery.
You can buy one at any computer store, sometimes even stores that do not sell hardware but just general electronics. It is a small round battery that is placed into your motherboard without much difficulty, you can even see it if you open the case. Remember to do this only if the date reset occurs again after you boot up the pc.

Do s KarumA said. Those batteries usually last for 4 or 5 years. You can buy easily a replacement. Same battery from clocks.
