How to recover corrupted RAR files? T.T

Hi . Just now I've downloaded a movie, it was separated to multiple parts and I joined them with HJ Splits.

But when I extract the .avi file using WinRAR, I received an error message: "CRC failed....the file is corrupt"

Do you guys know how to recover the damaged/corrupted RAR files? Perhaps a free and full software, not a demo or shareware...I've tried them all.

I'm using an USB internet, it has limited speed and bandwidth, I really don't want to re-download a 1GB movie file all over again...

Any help is appreciated, thank you very much

Put simply, you don't. I know, it really sucks. Happened to me sooo many times.

I'd suggest redownloading whatever parts you think might be corrupt then retesting each time.

>click repair

The bad thing about corrupt rar files that are in parts is that you have to figure out what part is corrupt and what part is not. Even so repairing does not have a 100% success rate.

Other option:
>open the .rar with winrar
>click on the extract button
>under miscellaneous there is an option called "Keep broken files"

But again, no 100% success rate

WinRar itself has a repair function that can usually be used to recover most of a file. I think if you right click that will give you the repair option. Winrar also has an option where you can tell it to ignore CRC errors.

(Open the rar file in WinRar, and select the "extract to" button. In miscellaneous section there should be a section called "keep broken files")

DaemonDragon: yes, it happens to me too, so many times so depressing...

KarumA and Chibati: I have tried that method, and yes the .avi file is there but it will only allow me to play up to 9 minutes, so I guess some of the part files is broken. I have tried most of the programs but they are just demo programs....no actual repair action. I need to buy the software.

So I guess I have to patiently re-download the movie again...

I'm sorry you weren't able to get it repaired.

I really hate a lot of the split files - I have trouble with them too.


I think because your internet is limited, if possible it might be best to bit torrent it, so that way if the download becomes interrupted - you can still download it correctly.

if it only allows you to play the first 9 minutes, it might mean that one of the first few parts of the file that you had downloaded is the one which is corrupt (sometimes the full file has not been downloaded even if the download manager records it as complete - check the initial file size and your downloaded file size, the one which is different will be the one which is corrupt, or something like that )

christine2000: yes, I would like to re-check all those part files but the thing is, I deleted them straight away after joined them with HJ Split... only to found out that when I extract the RAR file it is corrupted... : facepalm :
