I live in Greece and I'll buy the Kindle from the UK store of Amazon, does that mean that the books I'll buy or are free will be only from that store? I won't be able to get any from the US one? (sorry for the baka question, I just want to know as much as I can, it'll cost me pretty money and I'll never hear the end of my family either since they just can't fathom my gadgets)

though I have a friend that lives in US so if there is a problem I'll work my way around it like that too

EDIT: btw I know all about e-inks, e-paper, paper++ and stuff 'cos it was the class that almost kicked my a$s the previous semester in college, but I pulled through

    EDIT 2:
I read this in a forum:

What Kindle customers found, is that when they went to purchase additional books, & connected to Amazon to download them, that Amazon could and did delete a book they'd already bought, while they were connected and downloading the new book. (This also strongly suggests that your Kindle has no secrets from Amazon.)
    Is it true?
Also can you put in a Kindle a book you bought from another store? Like BookDepository for example

I have a Kobo ereader and I love it. You need light to use it but I find it doesn't give me the headache the back lit ones do. It's really easy to add books to it.

The only thing I don't really like about it is the cheap feeling buttons, which have held up surprising well so far XD.

You'll only get books for free that are up for promotion within the UK or are free in the UK (like classics). Furthermore, I've heard that if you try to get some US freebies, it's $2.99 more expensive in the UK, so UK users have complained before that it's not really "free" for them. To clarify, to an US account, the book price will show as $0.00 but for the UK account it will show as $2.99. You can work around this by putting your credit card info as an US address and transferring all books via USB so that Amazon does not have a chance to catch you on your bluff.

Yes, it's true that Amazon can do that. If it's a book you bought, and Amazon lost the license for it, they'll refund the money to you. This is extremely rare though, and personally I'd just go and buy the physical version of that book anyway (since the money is refunded). On the other hand, if you register your Kindle to an account and download all their books, then change your registration to another account, I think Amazon will remove the books you downloaded from the 1st account since technically you lost the rights to it when you deregistered. As long as you are not connected to the internet, though, you can keep reading those books. This is one way that friends have been sharing books between Kindles (register to your friend's account, dl all their books, and then dereg).

On the other hand, Amazon has not erased any of my personal docs or manga, so they probably only check for stuff flagged as Amazon property.

If the book is in a non-DRM protected format that can be read by Kindle, then yes, you can do that. It depends on the format though, so be careful.

So when and if I connect to amazon -which I imagine has a software to do so or sth?- I'll have to have the memory of the Kindle empty of any pdfs I haven't bought, right?
What about pdfs I dled from other stores? will they delete those?

You connect to Amazon through either setting up your Kindle's wireless or 3G (if you chose to get the 3G...which what is the coverage in UK anyway for that? Dunno if it'd be worth it...). The Kindle technically should function just fine without this step since you can transfer your Amazon bought books by USB.

Your Kindle would only empty of Amazon licensed books that you downloaded from another user's Amazon Kindle account while your Kindle was registered to that account. Amazon does not care at all about your pdfs. Anything bought from another store or a pdf you transferred yourself would never be touched by Amazon.

I use an Ipad, but only because I use it primarily for live music shows to play samples off of through a mixer, and didn't want to buy another device when I could read things off my Ipad.
