    Avi and Srt files??

Hi everyone! I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post about this issue so I apologize beforehand if it's not. I recently downloaded a drama episode in the avi format but the subtitles were in a separate srt file. I was wondering if someone could describe how I could:

    1. permanently merge the files together

    or

    2. watch the video with the subtitles without merging the files

Oh and please note that I'm VERY technologically challenged so detailed directions would be VERY appreciated (links too). Thanks!

    Hello there!

    1. To do that you can use specifical softwares like Virtualdub. Though it's not very easy, you should have some acknowledgements on it.

    2. By using VLC videolan. Just choose "Media" → "Advanced Open File" → under file selection browse and locate your file → Check "Use a subtitle file" and locate the subtitle file → Click Play and that's it.

The program you use depends on what you want to play it on, which device: console, dvd player etc. But if you want to play it on pc only then just use VLC.
Some dvd players that have a proper media player inside also detect .srt files and play them as subs (mine does and it has a build in DivX player to read data discs and most codeced .avi series)

Wow, it makes sense now. I think I'll just go with the second route since I already have VLC.

    THANKS gokunaruto and KarumA!

On an easier note: just name the 2 files (avi & srt) the same (except after the dot).

Example, you'll have a file named "movie.avi" and the other named "movie.srt".

Most softwares will read the subtitles automatically when you open the movie (such as Media Player Classic). No need to join the files or such, go the easy way.
