avast! Free Edition doesn't work

Hello..

It seems that I need some help regarding my avast! antivirus now.
I use avast! free edition since last year, and according to it we have to update it once a year regarding the licensing and also virus definition update.

I got a reminder to update it two days ago and installede it, but it turned out that the program didn't work properly. So I uninstalled it, in fact I removed it completely and then installed the update version again. It worked properly last night until I turned off my computer. Today, when I turned on my computer, it showed that avast! didn't work again.

As you can see from below image, it said that the system has been stopped. I tried to click the 'fix button' and also 'start program' but nothing happened.



Anyone else know what happened to it and could help me solve this thing?

I tested the free suite some months ago, I can tell you it's garbage and won't protect your system at all.

Well, I've used the free Avast for nearly a year now and haven't had a single issue. I think there's more than a few people who'll argue the fact that it's "garbage".

But krabuzh....update it ONCE A YEAR?????? No. You need to update definitions at least daily, and update the program whenever a new version is released. The only thing updates yearly is the registration key/license to use it.

So, if in fact you hadn't updated it, or were using an old version, well...no wonder it didn't work. As to why it messed up when you reinstalled and shut your pc off, I can only guess. Maybe something wasn't done properly when you first uninstalled it and it messed up when you reinstalled it. It's only a guess.

Either way, hope you find something that works soon!!!!! Then you better run some virus/malware scans right away!!!!

hahaha.. I guess I explain it wrong.. yup.. the old version did update automatically everyday..
I mean that I had to update it for the licensing stuff
err... something happened though.. I use another antivirus and the same goes with avast!
it didn't work at all..
already used three different antivirus (after installed and uninstalled each of it)

well, the only way is that I call a geek and then ask him to scan all over my computer to find any malware and undetected virus..

When I tested it it failed most of the leak test I used. I can't feel safe.

Personally, I once used AVG + Avast as an AV combo and both worked really well together... thought I don't know if they're still compatible today.

For now, I still use only Avast and it's plenty enought for me. Except if you download a lot of cracks, hacked softwares or unsafe files or go to xxx websites, you'd probably never get anything on your computer...

But AVG is my second option, if you don't like Avast, I'd recommand it.

Do not install more than 1 AV.
I don't like AVG at all, I know a lot of ppl that had many problems. The only ones I tested and were good were Comodo and Avira AV only. I use Comodo without AV and Avira free AV.
