OK, Windows 7 makes it a little easier to talk to the router. Otherwise I'd suggest having your computer go entirely on wi-fi. I've heard that cables wear off somehow.

It could be useful to reset the router sometimes. I have these kind of problems sometimes and what I have to do is to unplug and plug the router from the power line.

with the old modem/router I used to do that, but this time it didn't work
