    Looking for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Guru

    I need a little with Office 2007!

    I'm trying to set up some basic calculation commands to do calculations. BUT, having never set it up in excel 2007 versions before (have always used an old 2003 template), I've just noticed that it's a bit more different than I initially thought, and the old commands don't really work >_>

    Since I'm old school and don't really understand the savvy jargons, I've had no luck at finding my answers in its 'Help' section.

    Can someone help?

    All I'm after is something that does the same job as the old $ sign in Excel 2003, which locks the formula to take a value from a particular cel.

    I want to lock some to a specific cel, and some to a specific column or row.

    To illustrate - in 2003 format, I would type in (as part of the formula):

    i'm not sure what you are asking, but i'll try to help,

    for basic calculations, let's say you have 24 in the A1 and 12 in A2, and you want to multiply these two things and put it in for example box C5,
    1. go to box C5
    2. type "=A1*A2"
    3. press enter

    plus = +, minus = -, multiply = *, divide = /

    i keep getting server errors, so this will have to do :
    but it works fine for me;p
    i type this :
    A1 = 1
    A2 = 2
    A3 = 3
    A4 = 4
    A5 = 5

    Then a set of numbers in column B
    B1 = 1
    B2 = 2
    B3 = 3
    B4 = 4
    B5 = 5

    in C1 i press =A1*$B$1 den i press enter, den a small black cube appears at the bottom right corner of box C1, pull downwards and you get wat you wan.

    in conclusion, the $ button still works for Microsoft Excel.

    @christine2000

    Not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm after something that's a bit more complicated:

    e.g.

    If I have a set of numbers in column A:

    A1 = 1
    A2 = 2
    A3 = 3
    A4 = 4
    A5 = 5

    Then a set of numbers in column B
    B1 = 1
    B2 = 2
    B3 = 3
    B4 = 4
    B5 = 5

    Now in column C, I want to multiply the values of column A with column B1 specifically.
    Under the 2003 version, the code would be thus:
    In column C
    C1: =A1*$B$1
    C2: =A2*$B$1
    C3: =A3*$B$1
    C4: =A4*$B$1
    B5: =A5*$B$1

    Thus locking the second value to B1 specifically.

    I hope this makes a bit more sense

    The $ doesn't seem to work with the 2007 version.

    Hi I am using Excel 2007 for more than a year now and have been using the formula that you stated above and the formula works fine with me.

    However, instead of saving the file as a 2007 excel document I saved mine as a 2003 excel document so that my laptop (which has 2003 excel) can access it.

    Maybe you could try saving your file as a 2003 excel doc?

    @stupidgirlang & christine2000
    Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried that already, but because I am starting fresh with 2007, even if I save it in the 2003 format, it still won't let me do it. This is because the 2007 format have both columns and rows numbered (rather than columns labelled by letters). I think there's something else as well but it gets technical

    I can still use the old formula if I open a worksheet that was previously created by the 2003 excel, but I don't have any to work with on my current computer >.<
