Converting files

I have a important question for all members of this site.

I plan to soon get a new TV (LG 42") and would like to have all my videos playable from my xbox360 (need to be mp4 files).

So, I am asking if anywhere here knows of a good no-watermark-causing FREE converter program for MKV, OGM and such files that have good tutorials on how to use them. I have managed to convert a MKV file of Casshern to MP4 but the issue is that the subtitles (imbedded in the MKV file) did not carry over in the conversion. So is there a program that can either detach the subtitles and/or simply read the subtitles off the MKV file in conversion and allow for it to show up in the converted file?

Yes to play ON my 360 from a hard drive. The thing is though I don't understand ANYTHING from that thread you put up. I've found a Xbox360 video converter that worked on the MKV file but the only thing that it did not work on was the subtitles on it. Which means I need a program that will allow me to just plug the file in, choose a destination, say what I want it to do and presto. I'm sure there must be some free program that would work. I know it won't be super easy but, the stuff on that thread (which granted is also 3 years old) makes little to no sense to me.

Don't just look at the first post, the later pages have more updated methods and people using different and better programs

Also Animesuki is probably a better forum to perhaps ask this kind of question because it is a gathering spot for fansubbers whose knowledge of converting things is part of their weekly anime converting activities

Alright I'll look through it. I found a pack of subtitles that I'm going to try to and see if it works with a program called GOTsent and see if that works.
