Saved pictures end up "squished"

Hiya there. Straight to the point, sometimes when I save a picture to my computer and look at it later, it visually appears like it's compressed, or squished. And it's really squashed - almost always I don't know what the original pic is.

Looking at the info of the pic file, it appears with the normal width and height, but it's clearly doesn't look that way at all.

I don't understand how or why this happens. By the way it seems, it happens to random images. I've saved pictures off of lots of sites, so I don't understand how a whole bunch are okay but one ends up like this >.<

Maybe because of screen resolution. It saves it at the right height/width but the preview shows a smaller version because it fits the size/height into your screen so it could appear cramped.
Open it with paint or your image edit program, they show the full resolution just so you can test if this is really the case

Omg, that worked! I can't believe the answer to this was so simple. So just open it in other program then next time, alright.

EDIT: I just don't get why in Window's Photo Gallery it shows up squashed :/

that can happen because of the pixel aspect ratio. that might also happen sometimes if you open them in PS..you just have to set it to square and the pic has its normal size again. it's because there are square pixels and non square pixels and sometimes the programms show it wrong so it appears like it's stretched or squished.

It always does at a first view, you can use your mouse wheel to zoom in. The windows previewer has a set of buttons on the bottom as well of which one is used to make a fitted size and one for actual size
