    Unhappy Problem with dvd-burner

    Hey folks,

can anyone reco me good, free software for burning DVDs?
I got my new extern DVD-Burner today and installed Ashampoo 6. The first DVD I burned worked very well. 2 large movies on a DVD-R, that didn't even take 10 minutes. The dvd works fine.
But after that nothing worked anymore. I installed 2 more burn softwares, plus nero 9 essentials (the worst f*cking program ever). None worked, had to delete them all.
Already f*cked up 6 blank DVDs and I'm totally mad >_>'
I don't even know if it's the burner itself, the software or the blank dvds. And since the first one worked great, I'm confused.

It always goes like this: I put everything together, what I wanna get on the dvd, then adjust speed and other options and start.
The burner starts working then, fills the cache and then the progs say 'burning data' - but the little lamp from the burner stops glowing then and it also doesn't make sounds anymore.
    It just stops.

    What the hell?!
(And yes, I already tried burning with lowest speed - didn't work either.)

    PS: It's a Samsung SE-S084C/TSBS

Nero is a great programm to burn DVD, I've been using for more than 10 years and never had a problem.
I think this can helps you:

    But I used Nero 9.
it was the software that came with the burner itself.
I dun have a slow comp, but it took freaking 2 hours to install it, then it didn't work and took another half hour to delete it.
it was the worst prog I had ever experienced.

I never used Nero 9, I use Nero 7. Install in minutes and never failed me but my computer is clearly older than yours.
The problem is if you choose a software that is not compatible with the driver, nothing will works. You need to choose a compatible software. Make a search based in your driver model to discover which software you can use.

ETA: are your computer too old? Some old computers can't handle brand new hardware.

well, it's 5 years old, but not even 1 year ago I got a hardware update, plus a new win.xp with sp3, since my HD had crashed.

so it's not a new comp, but not buttold either, lol

I got the ashampoo reco from someone, who uses the same samsung-model
and as I said: it worked perfectly for the very first time. but after that it's all f*cked up... I'm tempted to send it back >.<'

oh and I couldn't find any older version from nero than 9.
they dun share old stuff on their homepage, only updates. I hate it when companies do that :/

So basically it stopped responding all together in the burning process?
No error notice, no nothing? Because if something is wrong with it all and you use Nero then you normally are given a message about the problem.
And for burning, Nero has a lot of programs that are a waste of discspace, though I use multiple for more reasons I got rid of essentials and all the junk. Only have Nero Burning ROM that I use.

Anyway it isn't going to be super easy to determine the problem. It could be the burner but also the cable . In this case that would be the usb cables it seems.
A way to test out if it is the burner itself or your computer is simply by hooking it up to another pc and burning or at least try to burn something.

I have a desktop computer and my DVD burner died on me a couple weeks back. I don't know what system you use or anything like that but a new inside burner is cheaper than an external. But just adding that since I was also considering buying an external one thinking it would be handier.

    thanks, dani ^^

@ KarumA: yep, it starts burning and then it stops. every f*cking time.
I also found a torrent with nero7 and tried that software. same problem.
tried with different blank DVDs, also changed the cable, thanks for that tipp.

    nuthin.

(an intern burner would be more expensive for me, since I'd also need to pay someone to stuff it in and adjust everything, etc.pp. - those service ppl are ridiculously expensive these days.)

so I'll just send this piece of crap back to amazon now >_>'

Not really, you have to look around for it. There are always people ripping you off but amongst the list there are some that don't.
You could also install it manually, it isn't hard though I was too lazy to do it.
But anyway, together with the burner and the installing by someone else it was for me still cheaper all together than buying an external burner. Really look into it.

Burner is acting strangely (will not burn converted video or ISO) - AnimeSuki Forum
    Newegg.com - dvd burner internal

this was the problem I had, does the message: power calibration error, sound familiar to you? Did any of the programs give that message.

Anyway, I paid $25,- for my burner internal, even with the extra installation fee it still got nowhere near a good quality external burner.

I have the same problem, but it happens with my laptop. The first times it worked fine, I used Nero 7 to burn my DVDs. Some days after, it stopped working D:
The fact is that Nero doesn't give any error message, it just stops. Sometimes the DVD gets out in the middle of the burning process and that's it, it's all f?ckud up >x<
