    Exclamation HP DV6000 problems

Okay let's see if anyone can help me with this, I know it's well known to have the same problems with my laptop but I just don't feel like investing anymore money on a laptop that works funny and would rather get a new one instead.

So here is my problem, a year ago my laptop started making very loud noised, and realized the fan was loaded with dust. Of course stupid me didn't mind it until my laptop stopped charging. I bought another charger and it was okay for 3-4 months. The next time my charger snapped and broke so I bought a new one. Then my laptop wouldn't start at all, it tried turning on and then shut back off. I thought it might be the battery and replaced it but the problem persisted. The damn thing keeps overheating even when I tried cleaning the fan a bit >-<; and it only turns on once a day. I realized that the blue lighted buttons that control the volume and such turn on the laptop rather than the power button o_O; wtf? Oh and when I want to use it the cover under the power button has to be lifted slightly and when it won't turn on I have to take the charger out and try again until the battery image at the edge of my laptop flashes and turns on. It keeps wanting to check the disk every time I use it. It freezes completely after and hour or two and won't turn on again until the next day. Photoshop freezes a lot too, and when I use the right tab to copy or save anything after a while, it stops me from saving anything anywhere or even opening 'My Documents' or to shut it off. Oh and I got this laptop in...2007...I think. I have all my work saved outside my laptop but I was hoping someone could tell me a little about why this happened. Also I want to get a new laptop but after my experience with HP I don't want to have to go through these complications again. Which one can I get? I'd need something with more than 140GB though, I don't care about the prices.

It should be obvious... at this point the cpu fan might be toasted since is overheating. This should be easily solvable by taking off the lower cover to reach the cpu fan and check if it's still functioning and clean it. Maybe changing the thermo gel between cpu and fan.

2007 you say, then this baby has gone a long way for a HP laptop.
HP and Dell use cheap parts on the inside to build laptops for a good and affordable price, their laptops get around for about 1-2 years before something internally breaks and needs a fix. That's what you get for using cheap parts seemingly.
Now, it could be that a lot of inside parts got friend on your side, the chips that the battery uses as well as motherboard etc. I would make a back up if I were you and not do any heavy running programs for the moment until you get a new one, so I wouldn't recommend photoshop for now.

As for a new laptop, it depends on what you want to do. I have a friend who has a really good one, if I were to get a laptop I'd get his but that is mainly because of the videocard etc. inside it he can run the newest games on his laptop XD
I could ask him where he got it, but I think he custom selected his parts.
That is something worth looking into, custom parts because usually it is cheaper than buying a standard one.
Brands from the top of my head that deliver monstrous laptops, Alienware these guys make the best laptops used for gaming etc. I could do my video edit/animation work work on it D:

I can just add that the best laptops are made by Toshiba. I have mine for 4 years now and it's still fine and running well!

I had a friend whose laptop only lasted 2 years, the same as mine but I can't figure out how it's still functioning even with it's complications -_-; I backed everything up just in case something ever happens to it and until I can replace it. I personally hate HP, anything they make has too many complications. I had 2 HP printers that gave me too many problems and I had to replace both and now I have a nice Epson Stylus printer/scanner that has been wonderful for me! Oh and apparently one of those printers didn't work for my laptop

    I have heard some positive things about Toshiba but never actually worked with one before, which one do you have? 4 years sounds like a good deal to me, nothing lasts forever but HP really killed the meaning of forever, I feel like it's on life support and I'll have to pull the plug o_o;

So you have HP or Toshiba? I am definitely convinced on getting a Toshiba, up until now I've never heard anyone complain about it like HP, so far so good! 2 years? I was expecting it to just die in 6 months

I know you have your answer but might I just say that I have had my HP laptop for just over two years now and it is still functioning fine.

I take really bad care of it, leave it on for days at a time, keep it constantly on charge, never change the battery (I only have one and it lasts for about twenty minutes), hardly ever update it, don't clean out the fans regularly (pretty much everything you're supposed to do, I don't do) and it is still fine.

In short, my HP is a beast. I wouldn't tell people NOT to buy one, because mine has been a pretty nice machine. I game on it too and haven't had any problems.

The same with my six year old acer laptop. That thing is amazing. I damaged the cooling system, the graphics (it had an inbuilt graphics...thingy), pretty much everything there is to damage and it is still working fine. When I took it to the computer shop the guy was so amazed that it was still working without a glitch ^^

The only thing wrong with my HP is the occasional weird noises from the fans (my fault) and the keys keep falling off. My letter 'k' key has been loose for a year and my spacebar is getting a little dodgy

Toshiba seems the way to go though. My friend has a Toshiba and as far as I know he has had no problems with it whatsoever ^^

Edit: What are you using your laptop for, might I ask? Gaming, surfing the web? Because going to an actual store might help you get an idea what laptop will suit your needs. Just because it isn't a Toshiba doesn't mean it isn't good.

I almost murdered my laptop, on more than two occasions did it fall and another opened the panel under the power button -_-; It's scratched up and it's always plugged in, I can't leave my house because the internet will cut, I'm connected to my sister's computer and we share the internet. The touch pad is weird, sometimes it won't work at all and the buttons are still intact XD I really am considering Toshiba, I don't want to have to pay so much more money just to have it fixed for only a few months and the problem coming back again.

I use my laptop for graphics designing, I'm also a writer so I keep my manuscripts there too, of course all the manga I download is in there, raws I scan and most of my class work. I don't play games in there, or surf the web, I have a computer for that. I didn't buy my HP. my dad got it for me on my birthday so I wasn't there to tell them what I wanted with it -_-; that is the point of looking for a laptop but it was a surprise present so I had no say. I usually call on a guy I know for repairs, he has repaired most of my computers in the past and I recently told him about my laptop, he said if the problem persisted to call him. The warranty is expired so I guess I'll first try and get him to fix it, he's always done a very good job. If he can't fix it I guess I'll go and get another one and ask specifically for one with more space and such, just need to make sure I didn't forget to save anything I've done recently.
