Actually I recommend you keep the frame rate and aspect ratio the same as the original as some videos (especially if what you're encoding is a movie) maybe 16:9 and may use 24fps pr 25fps. It always safer to check what the original is and make sure its the same or else you can end up with elongated people or bad flicker and/or jerky movement. The video scale 640x480 is for 4:3 videos and 720x480 is for 16:9 videos.

I've used xvid and H.264 and haven't had a problem with the encodes ^^

#11 btw is for encoding from DVD files (VOB) as they contain a whole lot of extra information which you can use or discard like subtitles and other languages ^^

I actually deleted the program thinking the install might have been a problem but I only now re-installed it >///<

@foshio88: The only thing I can't seem to do is double click on the file, but I did whatever else you suggested.

@Moon-Angelica: I took your suggestion and found a calculator of sorts that gave me kbps of 2790, so it's under 3000.

I'll report back on what the outcome is >_<

EDIT: And I think it's pretty good. The original file is 2.8 GB, but the converted one is just under 1.9 GB; almost 900 MBs shaved off O.O

oh wauu i guess i forget to tell u about the calculator thingy. u___u yep, well done!
but for vob->avi i wouldn't use lower than 3000kbps for music video, drama or movie(DVD) coz somehow it will get really horrible quality. But i never tried converting anime(did ur file was anime?) before so i'm not really sure, dear. BUT REALLY Thanks and well done!
Now u can watch the files w.o worrying some spaces eh?

I think I still need to do some fine tuning; the video isn't as crisp as the original. You can see the little cubic parts >_<

So I might have to make the converted file's resolution bigger than what I had initially chosen, or whatever else >_>

And it's a CGI movie; RPG gaming fans should know which one I'm talking about ^^

Changing the resolution won't depixelise it. The bitrate is what controls how much information is kept per frame. The less information the chunkier the pixels and the smaller the filesize will be.

Which codec did you use for the conversion? Apparently H264 is better at giving a higher bitrate at a lower filesize than xvid. I don't know about the other codec suggested though as I've never used it.

Though I will point out that in any conversion and downsizing there will be some quality loss and you just need to work out what is an acceptable quality loss for you ^^

Xvid is the one I went with just 'cause it was the only one I recognized >_<

Okay, gave it a second try, and got a better result with a rather small resolution; I tried 480 x 272 for the hell of it :P

The video is very crisp though, so it's all good I suppose.

I kind of want to get something bigger than that, but I admit that this program is still too hard for me to try over and over; I'll just be happy with what I have now and maybe in the future give it another shot.

Apologies for the double post, but I have a new issue I wanted to ask about here rather than make a new thread if possible.

In regards to the SUPER converter, I was wondering if it was possible to convert an mkv file into avi, AND choose the subtitle track to have in the converted avi file?

EDIT: Eh, nvm I think; SUPER only appears to convert the video and audio and not the subtitles >.<

TS, when you do the transcoding, make sure it is set to 2pass encoding mode for the best quality per bitrate ratio

If you use 1 pass encoding, video blocks will definitely appear. I would recommend VirtualDubMod for a start into encoding

Usually the quantization of the file is a factor which goes from 2x to 4x. Try fiddling with this and leave the rest as it is. And do try Avidemux2

could you maybe change it into a different format?
