To all those who are encountering the main system error message as posted by Hadas_g on the first page of this thread:
It is NOT enough to merely install the Japanese/Korean language support. If you are running on Win XP, you need to change the language settings at the system control panel to Japanese, as well. I can't stress this enough. The mainsystem.exe error is probably showing up because you have not done that.
If you are running on Win 98 (or, god forbid, 95), there's two chances: a) It works, or b) it doesn't work. If it works, good for you. If it doesn't work... there are apparently programs out there that can upgrade the system with a Japanese language support pack, but it doesn't always work miracles on BL games. So there's a high chance that even if you installed such a pack, a game won't work. It's just tough luck.
Thirdly, Silver Chaos 1 needs the Indeo Video Codec to run properly. If you do not have that codec installed, the game may crash on a regular basis, most often just before or after the opening movie. You need to pay a fee for the Indeo codec to download it at the official site... but just google "Indeo Codec", and there will be free download portals aplenty. Download the codec, and install it. Perhaps this fixes your problems for good?
hey uh, i have a quick question... i'm a mac person and am risking putting this on mommy and daddy's windows >.> <.< >.> but i don't know windows ;-; i downloaded WinRar cuz it said i should use that for something >.> .... ok first off i can't get anything SC related to pop up... i haven't even installed it yet it's still asking me which program i would like to choose to install it with... i downloaded dai-kun's silver chaos 2 and i have a win xp.... buuuuut no idea what to do ;-; you can pm me i didn't mean to interupt this thread, sorry... but PWEEZE HELP @_@
(edit) ok, i downloaded the indeo codec thing too.... it wont work... it's still unrecognizeable... (sp?) ... i've never played a bl game, i don't even know how they work or what they run like or look like ;-; i'm 20 going on 21 i've decided i have to try one or i'll go nuts please help ;-;

ok i'll stop sorry for leaving such a god awful long message ;-;
@ Uncle_Bert:
It's okay, it's okay, calm down. You're going about it aaaall wrong, and that's why nothing works. Close your media players. They have nothing to do with your game. Take a deep breath and relax. Are we good? Good. Then let's tackle this:
First of all, WinRar is needed to unpack the game. It is probably called .zip or .rar at the end of the file right now, right? That means you need to open the packaged file with WinRar, like opening a parcel.
Just install WinRar and double-click on the game file. The WinRar program should automatically open. Choose the option "Extract files" (or something like that) and specify the folder into which you want the files extracted. That shouldn't be too different from Mac.
Now, look at the files you have extracted. Are they, by any chance, labelled .iso, .cue, .bin (or some other obscure file format)? If so, you need to burn them on CD before you can play anything. I trust you have some kind of burning program? And preferably a blank CD?
The burning program should have an option called "Burn CD Image" or something to that effect. Select this option, and the computer will ask you for the file. Choose the smallest of the bunch (it's probably a .cue, easily recognizable by the fact that it's only a few kilobytes in size). This file will tell your burning program what to do with the other, bigger files.
After selecting the correct file, just click through the rest of the options, and choose to give the okay for burning. When the process is finished, you should have a Silver Chaos 2 CD in your drive.
Now, you need to install the game before you can play it. If a program isn't installed, it can't work, right? Same goes for Silver Chaos. Double-click on the CD drive that currently houses your game CD. One of the files that open up should be labeled install.exe or something similar. Open it, and the installation screen will pop up (all in Japanese, of course).
Just click through the process by approving of the computer's actions. That's probably easiest if you are a BL as well as a Windows newbie.
Once that is done, stop! You can't play yet. First, you have to set your system language to Japanese. Otherwise, the game won't be recognized by your computer, and will crash.
Choose Start > Settings > System. Pick the icon labelled "Language and Regional Options". A window with three tabs should open. Choose the last one, labelled "Advanced".
There should be a list of all the languages that are installed. Ignore it. Instead, choose the small drop-down menu above it. This is for changing the language of non-Unicode programs. Select "Japanese" from the list. The computer will now prompt you for a restart. Select "yes".
When the computer has rebooted, everything will look as it did before, only you can now play Japanese games. Double click on the Silver Chaos 2 icon in your game folder, and the game start screen should open. Voila, you're ready to play!
I hope this helps. Remember not to panic if there's something you don't know, and you'll be fine. If there's problems during the installation or if there's something you don't understand, you can just PM me. ;)
I have download the "Indeo Codec", but it's still don't work!!
WHY?????..
Umm.. maybe it's connected to the fact that in the boxes of the talk(you know what I mean.. right?) I don't see Japeanese.. only queistion marks (?)...
I have said so before, but I will say it again, one more time. Switch the system language to Japanese!!!
This is crucially, vitally important. Without that, any, absolutely any BL game will crash, no matter what you do.
If you want to know how to change the language settings, I already replied to Uncle_Bert in the above post, but I'll put it here again, in case you don't want to read the whole thing:
I get the same error that everyone has here and I understand I have to switch the language system, but what if my computer doesn't have japanese on the advanced 'language' section. I have windows xp and it has a whole bunch of languages except for japanese. what can i do?
Simple. You install it. ;)
Here's how you do it:
Put the Windows XP CD-Rom in the drive, and select "Regional and Language Options" from the system control panel. There, you get three tabs. Select the middle one, labelled "Languages". There should be a part called "Additional Language support" (or something similar to that), offering two options with tick-boxes next to them.
a) The first one is for installing languages with complex symbols, like Japanese and Thai.
b) The second one is for installing east Asian languages.
Check the tick-boxes next to both options.
When you click "OK" now, the Windows CD-Rom should automatically start doing its job. It might prompt you for a few more "okays", but that's fine.
Once the CD is done installing, it's best to restart your computer before you try switching your system to Japanese. Fewer computer protests that way. ;)
When you access the "Regional and Language Options" again, it should now be possible to select Japanese from the Drop-down menu in the third tab.
hey, thanks! I thought of that just now but then i realize i don't have the windows xp cd-rom, because some guy updated my comp to xp, so im thinking of asking my cousin if she has a cd...god, this is so much trouble...
Thank you!!!
where can i download Silver Chaos from? I've read it's in japanese, is there any subtitle option or similar?
Search the forums. :P
And no, there's no subtitles or anything. There's an English patch in the making, but it's not complete yet. You can try running the game with Anime Game Text Hooker and a translation software, though. You can find more explanations in a sticky thread in the game discussion forum.
And now, for an entirely different problem...
I can't even get past the installation- It says I have to insert the CD (or at least I presume it does- my knowledge of Japanese is limited at best), and since I downloaded it...well. I have tried to mount it on a virtual drive emulator (Daemon Tools- wonderful, wonderful program), but it does not display any files that it can use.
I have tried Daemon Tools and ordinary CD burning (drag-and-drop) in every combination that I can think of, and have resorted to staring at my computer screen in a fixed manner, with a rather displeased expression on my face, and cursing at irregular intervals.
In short, help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I downloaded the game, and it was not a burnable image. However, I still burned the files I got on CD, and then chose to install the whole game onto the harddisk, so that I could play without inserting a CD.
Try burning it and installing it COMPLETELY from there. Yes, this installation needs more drive space, but it's guaranteed to work.
Ah, I see- Except there is no option to install on the hard-disk. (Though I know what you mean- I did manage to get through the installation a while ago, and had to do that. Bummer that it's no longer working.) I click Setup, and it tells me to insert the CD-Rom. I insert the CD-Rom that I have burned the files to, click 'OK', and suddenly...nothing happens, except that the same error message pops up again.
Sorry, I should have been more specific about when the message popped up. Can you help?
Hm, I'm not sure what you are trying to do now. Perhaps I misunderstood you, but just to be sure, have you tried the following:
1) Burn all the files you got on one CD.
2) Start the setup FROM the CD. Not from the harddrive. From the CD.
This just might take care of the game asking you for a CD-Rom, because it's already there.
If it still doesn't work, I recommend you take a look at the Silver Chaos download thread in the game forum. I remember there being a download (possibly via bittorrent) that offers an .iso file. That's guaranteed to get past copy protection issues. You might want to try downloading that if all else fails.
Hmm normally you should be able to install SilverChaos without Daemon tool or burning somethin. (well at least I was^^)
When I tried to install SilverChaos I got that annoying message too, about inserting the CD. In my case the solution was
A) to choose the biggest installation option (the one which takes most
MB) and
B) not to switch the system language to japanese until you have installed
the game --> switch it after you have installed it.
Btw, theres a website concerning BL-Games which explains those ways you mentioned with burning etc. Here's the link
http://blgames.ukepile.com/install/installation.php
Hope that is helpful :)
um yeah, i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but, I just downloaded silver chaos, and it's in two separate files, i'm not sure how to install it...can someone help me?
hi nabaris^^
could you please tell me the name (complete name with the ending "data.something") of those files?
I didnt have that of problem with SilverChaos cos I somehow downloaded the installer of the game (which a normal .exe file) - but Ive downloaded other games, where I got different files and all none .exe files, which meant I had to use daemon tools.
Okay, tell me the name of those files please, byebye
Shandyr
oh thank you shandyr, ok i got the files like: splash.dll, norinstall.cfg, mininstall.cfg, intructions.txt, installer.exe, install.cnf, info.disk, icon.ico, fullinstall.cfg, autorun.inf. that's not counting the folder stuff, i hope that's enough though...
Hey what I instantly noticed is that you have "instructions.txt" which actually should be a text-data with instructions of how to install the game attached.
"installer.exe" is THE file you should use for installation, try clicking it - normally the installation menu should show up
all in all to me it doesnt seem that you have to use daemon tools or other stuff like that - just try to install it like an ordinary computer game by clicking "install.exe" :D
hope I helped you :)
ya thank you, but i don't know why but when I installed it, it say something about a cd? Do you know what I should do?
Hi guys, umm, I downloaded Silver Chaos 1 from Tauglanz and i found out that I need a program to change the .CCD .IMG and .SUB files to convert to a readable file... any suggested webbies? =]
Heeey you =]
yeah I think you might need something like Daemon Tools
---> http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/down...tegory&catid=5
hi there ^^
no problem mate, here you are
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/daemonhelp.php
just look under the different categories on that site, especially under "usage"
(copied from that site)
Mounting an image:
1. Right-click on the DAEMON Tools trayicon
2. Select Virtual CD/DVD-ROM
3. Select Device [?:]
4. Click Mount
5. Browse and select the image (this means, the files with the .ccd ending (or another one, just try it out)) you wish to mount
6. Click OK or double-click on the file to mount
(ignore this please) I downloaded silver chaos in 2 parts and they came in the files you see to the right of the picture (not the winrar archives). I didn't know what to do and everywhere I read said I needed to extract them with winrar. So I downloaded winrar, archived them in winrar (those are the files to left that I got), then extracted them... which left me with the same files as I had originally, so I deleted the copies. I would guess that my computer automatically extracted them (or something like that), but now I don't know what to do.
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...h_untitled.jpg
Please help if you can! (/ignore this please)
(begin edit)
I deleted the files I had because I started to extract the first one and it asked for a disk containing the second part, so I browsed and gave it the second part. Everything was going fine until I got an error message stating that the second part was corrupt.
I redownloaded from a different user in seven parts and I tried extracting them the way I did the first time, thinking that it would be simple and I would merely do the same thing with the seven parts instead of just the two and all would be fine and dandy... But no. I extracted part one and I got a folder with four files in it:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...untitled-1.jpg
except for the folder. That didn't come until I tried extracting the next part (2) into the same folder, thinking that perhaps everything would work all right if it was all in the same folder. That didn't work as I only got seemingly the same files each time I extracted a different part. I clicked the patch file to see what it would do, and I got a folder named module with this in it:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3..._untitled2.jpg
I am really at a loss for what to do now. I read this thread (the whole thing), but I didn't see anyone who was having the same problem that I was.
Silver Chaos 2 worked fine on my computer, but I worked with that one only after I had downloaded it in one part. Japanese script works fine on my computer (I'll throw that in since it seems to be a common problem).
Thank you to anyone that can help!
Okey, for people who still can't play a game. I had the same problem, even after installing that codec and changing language to japanise I had those '?' symbols. Well, I though that I changed language right since I couldn't use polish symbols on my computer anymore and while going on sites like google.pl I had everything in japanese. But, I was wrong:) Go to your control panel once more and change EVERYTHING that you can to japanese, check every option. There is something about programs that can't something about Unicode (I am to lazy to think how translate it to you properly) that's where you have to choose japanese. Okey, but better somebody tell me HOW to play those games... I mean I am only clicking and clicking, I now that what I should do, but I fell like I am going throught the game and nothing depends on me. I can't see where I can choose any option, I am just clicking on this box with text. That's fun.
For those of you still having a problem with Silver Chaos, I found two websites that should help those of you still wanting to play the game, especially Window Users.
Go here to get a patch they have for the game:
http://blgames.ukepile.com/database/silver/silver.php
Go here to set your language for the game right:
http://blgames.ukepile.com/install/installation.php
Hey guys. I was wondering if anybody can help me. I installed silver chaos on my computer. My system is set to Japanese Uni-something programs, and I run windows XP. I installed the version that doesn’t ask me for the CD and when I click the icon a little tiny window comes up that says silver chaos, but as soon as that window comes up I get another series of windows.
First a window comes up titled Audio Base. In the window is says Primary Sound Buffer (Japanese writing) I click OK. Then another message comes that says DirectSound (Japanese writing) I click OK. Then a window comes up with Japanese writing across the top and it says <audiobase.mod> (Japanese writing) I click OK again. Finally a window comes up that is titled SysAttachModule::GetModuleID. It says (Japanese writing) 225DAE91-EA81-4F72-A890-7BE411F5B200 I click OK again. Then nothing happens at all. It just closes and the little silver chaos screen goes away again.
I’ve read most of these forum posts to try to figure out what was wrong, but nobody seems to be having this problem. Before I installed the English patch, it used to turn black and change my pixel resolution before giving be the traditional Microsoft “send error report” message and closing. I’m completely new to all of this and appreciate if somebody could give me a hand.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!
im getting the MAINSYSTEM ERROR too...
here's what i did...
1. install silver chaos and patch and ligos indeo codec
2. run the patch
3. click mainsystem.exe
4. click start
then.... im getting this mainsystem error with the usual send, dont send buttons...
please help.... puleaaaaaaaaaaase! *insert puppy dog eyes here* TT_TT
@People having problems with silver chaos english patch.

If your game doesn't crash at one of the 2 points listed in the support thread i can probably solve your problem if you supply more info about your system:
-Which version of windows are you running?
-Do you have japanese support installed?
-Also if you can read any text in the game, what is the last line of text you can read before the game crashes?
-And a screenshot of the actual error screen would be nice(only useful if it contains a numerical value).
@Zanna:
Your problem is most likely due to an audio problem(the game fails to init its audio module), have you installed directx?
@LostUno
oh, thank you so much for your help!!! it's now working!!! thank you, thank you!!!
@LostUno
-Which version of windows are you running?
Window 98SE
-Do you have japanese support installed?
Only The Japanese Word Procesor.
-Also if you can read any text in the game, what is the last line of text you can read before the game crashes?
But, that moment Adonis' thought was cut off, and his modest dream was crushed cruelly...
-And a screenshot of the actual error screen would be nice(only useful if it contains a numerical value).

For those interested, loneliness's problem was figured out, it was an ogg codec problem, solution posted on:
http://aarinfantasy.com/forum/f16/t5...port_need.html
O_O I'm having the same MainSystem.exe error a couple others are having. I installed the full version of the game, the english patch, directx, and the indeo codecs. I click on the icon to open the game and I get a
SysAttachModule::GetModuleID
19CBAE6C-2BE6-4DC6-9711-90A02EE361CB
It loads the main menu screen fine, and I can access the options and use the exit buttons fine, but when I click to start the game it says MainSystem.exe has stopped working and it closes the game. T___T Its odd, because I've played Silver Chaos before on my older laptop just fine before there was an English language patch and now on a brand new laptop its not working? O.o [-X
@moonep:
Nearly everybody's problems have been solved(except for Zanna's who hasn't replied), if you look on the support thread link i posted earlier, every problem wasn't linked to the patch but to people's computers which is most probably your case too.
If it crashes as soon as you click on start this is most probably a sound problem.
Possible solutions:
*Try installing the oggcodecs(link in support thread)
*If this doesn't work try running dxdiag(Start->run->dxdiag) go in the sound menu and click "test directsound" and see if there is any problem.
If this doesn't work:
*What os(98,xp,vista?) are you using?
*Do you have sound(music?) during the main menu?
*Please provide the full text of the error(s)(including title), usually it should say something about <something.mod> somewhere.
T_T Sorry to be a bother. I always try to figure things out on my own before I post for help.
I installed the oggcodecs and it still doesn't work, and it said there were no problems in the dxdiag.
I run Vista, and there is sound in the main menu. As I stated in my previous post everything works, like the options menu, its just the game crashes after I try to start the actual storyline. It doesn't give me a single line, it just gives me the MainSystem.exe error.
The numbers and such I posted above is all it says for the error. O.o There's nothing about a .mod error unless that's included with the few ???s there are. I've tried the game with my computer in both English and Japanese language settings.

Here's a screenshot of what initially shows up when I click to open the game.
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3...roblem2lw1.gif
Here's a screenshot of the next box that opens.
After that 1:6 message the main menu opens just fine with music and everything.
