So I finally installed Omerta thanks to our lovely uploaders in here, but after getting the game to run- it's not saving - either as a quicksave or regular save, nor is it making any data files in the root folder. Any help/advice, or should I just wait for my copy of the game to get here and see if it's any different?

Are you logged into the asministrator account or running it as administrator? I've installed the forum version and it saves just fine.
Yeah, I am. It shows a box with a 'comment' thing on it, but doesn't seem to save any data despite clicking on it. I'll try an uninstall + reinstall later since I obviously can't get anywhere like this, but I wonder what's up with that. o_o
Editing to add: Does anyone know where the game system details are saved and in what file? The reinstall isn't helping. :(

Yep, tried everything. Still no luck. I'll hold out for my official copy and see if there's a difference, if not, then wow wth Karin+Chatnoir :\
Editing again, to add that despite running it with different compatibility settings + as an admin, it still doesn't work, but I noticed it was maintaining the game settings (text speed etc) when I reinstalled SO it's likely that wasn't a complete clean uninstall. Any advice?
The only other thing I can think of is if you used the patch uploaded to the forum, tne uploader did say that this patch had issues with quicksave and to wait for a future patch. This patch was to allow Omerta to run on non Japanese windows systems (aka your copy of windows 7 wasn't bought in Japan), so having your own copy won't make a difference if you still use this patch.
I'm not on my computer right now, so I can't verify where the data file is, but it should be in the program files folder. Now, when I applied the patch, I stayed away from clicking quick save or quick load, so maybe your use of that set off a bug in the patch. Full uninstall + delete karin program folder + full install + play not touching quicksave and see if just regular save works. Otherwise, hope a better patch comes out for you!

EDIT again...; Okay, I'm feeling like I'll need to remove the patch somehow but I'm not sure how to go about it. Anyone know where I can find it? >_>; The game is kind of pointless to play if it can't be saved and from the looks of it, it has the potential to crash, too. That's going to erase everything that's been worked on.
Where are the save files saved and in what format? If someone can offer a normal save file right at the beginning of the game and share that, I can see if the game decides to save after it. If not, well. Looks like I'm without a game even with an official copy. :|;
OKAY update on the not saving- game has managed to successfully save, saves are in the user's documents, in a "My Games" folder. Also, it seems like changing locales helped which I *thought* I'd done, but oh well.
I hate you still, Karin + Chatnoir. :|
I got this problem too now. I recently got windows 7 and it wont save, I even put my old saves in the save place when I had Vista, when it still worked. I can't figure out what you did...
Okay I fixed it seems like I went to the wont localization settings.
hi, I got the same problem with Shahnida. I use windows xp, I checked my games folder, there's omerta's folder, but there's nothing in it..ah I'm so confused, anyone would you mind to help me?TT.TT

i had no trouble with starting the game but the save option doesn't work for me either which is very annoying and makes playing kind of useless.
it really doesn't help that everyone who did get it to work eventually doesn't share it in this thread except for just mentioning that they got it to work <,< everybody else's still stuck with the same problem.

i'm running the game in virtual dutch windows XP on mac, location and language options and all that set to Japanese.
the game runs fine without the patch (or with I'm not sure. I did at some point run it but no clue how to get it undone) and with, except for the save option. I can't save the game AT ALL /cries
reinstalled the thing 3 times now and have played the game until some point (everytime just how far I got until i had to turn off my pc, grr...) for 5 times now, i'm kind of sick of having to run through everything again and not being able to just look back scenes.
in the game folder itself are some files and two folders, data and sytem. in system theres some useless nonsense going on and in system there are the 4 sound/game/movie/voice files.
I can't spot a save game folder D:
if anyone who DID eventually get the save option to work could explain just how, pleaseeee?
Well, I think I fixed was the usual location parameters.

i just installed mine on my laptop (vista) and got almost no problem at all with saving, so sorry can't help you with that problem ._.
so i thought i just tell how i installed the game:
1. burned the iso to a cd, and run it...
2. got problems at installing, cause it wouldn't make the omerta folder, so i found this post -> here
opened the disc and opened the omerta folder and right clicked on setup and clicked run as administrator!
3. installed the games without any problems
4. put the extracted zip-patch alsignup_??? to the folder where omerta is installed to (there's also omerta_m)
5. then start the game double clicking omerta_m
reminder:
quicksave is not the same as saving! quicksave is a quicksave, like when quicksave before responding and then you can just quickload to go back! when you wanna save, you have to right-click, a menu? opens and there you save, where you also have to name the saving.
also there is no save-data file in the omerta folder! i checked it.. and i saved and can load.
so, if you did all that, and it still didn't help, i don't know, sorry :(
I have Vista, not Windows 7, but in every case of the game not saving that I've encountered in recently released games (i.e. 2011 release date), you need to not only install by "run as administrator" but when you go to open it from your desktop/start menu icon, you also need to right click and "run as administrator". This each and every time you go to play the game. If you haven't tried that yet, please try adding this extra step.

IzayaNeko, are you sure you are running with Japanese as your system language and Japan as your region? If so, your pop-up from the patch shouldn't be gibberish like that. Maybe double check your language settings first.
The truth is that i have unistalled japanese off my laptop cuz many languages will break it down...Also i'm fine with not understanding what the patch saying......the game shows the japanese letters anyway!:P
That is certainly your choice, but just be aware that some games will not install properly without Japanese as your system language if core installation files have words written in Japanese.Quote:

I've tested it on 2 PCs, one with Japanese and one without. You can play the game on both but no Japanese language = no save files.

I believe it has something to do with the localization thing, though I'm not exactly sure what it is. Those who have Windows 7 face the same problem. Try checking out this VM?
FYI: Just an example of where your save folder is.
C:\Documents and Settings\83\My Documents\My Games\花梨シャノアールオメガ\オメルタ～沈黙の掟～ - ver1.3\save
I'm not sure whether to upload a save to see whether it works or not. I've never done such a thing before. It might have its risks.
I tried everything that was suggested before I posted to this thread. But even though I have tried everything that was suggested and written down I have not been able to get Omerta to save for me. I am using Windows Vista and even though other games worked just fine for me Omerta seems to be the only one causing me troubles.
The one thing I did notice was even though I installed the Japanese language I'm still getting jibberish on the top of the window even though Japanese is showing up when I play the game. Everything seems to be working fine except for the game not saving which is a problem when I have to save. *sigh*
Let alone save, I can't even get the game to run :S
After trying to apply the patch, I kept on getting an error about AlphaLogDisc.
And no SETTEC folder popped up in my documents like it was supposed to
Then someone gave me their settec folder (with the alphalogdisc file inside), then I get this now whenever I click the patch:

Then, every time I try to open the game, i get this:
settec - "An internal exception occurred (Addess:0x756c9b25). Please contact support@settec.com"

I restarted the game to try and create another save file as an experiment. When I went to do that, all my old saves from the other night were there! And when I clicked "load," my saves were still there and I successfully used them t load my game from the other night.
Basically, dumb thing you can double-check if you haven't already is to restart the game and try loading from within the game.... My saves don't show up from the title screen. I have to restart and THEN load.
Have I mentioned how dumb this is? Beggars can't be choosers, but... hopefully someone, somewhere can be helped by this. :/
