Lamento "freezing" (? not progressing?)

I'm hoping someone can help me, and I will be ultra mega super grateful to anyone who can!

I just started playing Lamento and things have been going fine, but I've reached a part that I can't get past. I don't know if I would call it "freezing", since the menu and toggle text keys still work and I can save and load, but the game won't progress with the left mouse click or enter key. Here's a screen shot of it:

<sub>has anyone else struggled with this? I've tried restarting the game a bunch of times but it's still stuck

I am also having this same issue. Did you ever find a fix?

It's possible your save file was corrupted. Did you have several saves or just one? I had a similar issue when I first started playing lamento and unfortunately I had to restart from the beginning, but thankfully I wasn't far in.

What OS are you playing on? I notice some newer OS's have problems with the game because it needs special compatibility settings.
