Review: At first glance, Honto Yajuu is your typical yaoi with a taboo relationship: in this case, cop x yakuza. That usually leads to lots of fighting, sexy men who are hot for each other, and violent sex. But not in this case! A 300-word review could not convey how entertaining, heartwarming, and freakin' adorable this manga is.
Story: We have Ueda Tomoharu (your friendly neighborhood cop) and Gotouda Aki (your friendly neighborhood… yakuza), who seem to be horny for each other all the time. (Hey, I’m not complaining.) But sex aside, they have a deep friendship and love, and have been through a lot together, including kidnappings (yeah, plural), near-rape via cousin, an omiai, car accidents, etc.
Over the 7 volumes, this seemingly outrageous relationship becomes a fact of life – unwavering and wholly accepted by everyone, regardless of their differences in personality, fashion sense *cough*, and occupation. It is touching to see how they accept each other unconditionally from the very start, and how they gradually deepen their relationship.
Art: I love the contrast between yakuza!Aki and adorable!Aki ~ his pouting face is the best! Ueda is always sexy in his police uniform, but also in his gangsta suit. Mmhmm! Lots of eye candy in the extras, including cosplay and details on their sex life. The sex scenes are not overly soaked in sweat, not too obscene, but still sexy enough to stir up a little wetness.
Honto Yajuu combines an adorable and sweet love story with just enough smut to keep us perverts interested. I think that everyone has read it, but just incase you haven’t: Go read it. Now. And listen to the drama CD too because Nakamura Yuuichi and Kakihara Tetsuya get it
ON. And now I’m out of words. I knew 300 words wouldn’t be enough.
