Unless it would include phantom posts (i.e. ones not counted from sections like Community Cafe), then I would never reach that point either. Too many points for cost wouldn't work for a lot too, most of us may never reach a high enough point base to buy stuff like that. 1-3 seems more reasonable than 3-8.

A USER MAY CREATE A CUSTOM RANK TITLE IF S/HE:

1. Reaches 5 million points
2. Reaches 5,000 posts
3. etc, etc, etc.

This IS a big deal, and I think it should be something you work towards. It would be something for folks with loads of points like myself to spend points on, since cards become pretty cheap once you pass the 10 million mark.

Or perhaps something like this:

2. Every time s/he earns 500 posts, after the first 5,000

This would allow for multiple rank changes, and would avoid a "one-time cost = limitless name change" situation.

Well, seeing your current points, you should very well be able to get the same amount of points as me, I started with 1 mil savings and now I'm on 72 (almost 73) mil
And I've given a LOT of points just for feeling nice on that day xD (Last time I gave 6 mil I think), so if you don't spend all your points (Make sure the saved points are ALWAYS in the bank), and just use points you have outside of the bank, you'll be well on your way to getting much more :P

Someone said that this is a big deal so here's my question: why is it? I agree with the folks in earlier pages who say the system works fine.

I think having customization when a certain number of posts are reached would cause folks to spam, just like already mentioned. I'm proud to say that I've made a buttload of posts that contribute to conversation, not spam.

If anything, it should be an option for contributors. I see the donations are getting low, and that might entice people to donate more. I know we already get the nifty badge, a bigger avatar size, and more inbox space, but I'm saying that could be an option. Or points like said.

Or maybe for users who have been here a long time. Like you have to have been there a year and have X number of posts. I dunno.

Really though, my core instinct is to say it's unnecessary and a waste of Dai-kun's time. He's still trying to figure out the new card shop as well as a billion other things. Why throw in something so trivial when everything else is already so customizable.

I think I'm going to actually pop out of my usual thread for once because I think this is rediculous (Please keep reading).

I don't think it'd be fair to assume people can raise points buy ranks. I have been here for over a year now, and I have seen people who have been around for longer than that, and none of us have ever had 1 million points or anything close to it.
Having an expensive price tag on having custom names would be unfair on those people who come here to socialise and make friends rather than upload anime and enter competitions.
Hell, most of my points are given to me. I used to get points quite a bit, I used to enter contests and I assumed that that was a way for everyone to gain points - but it isn't.
Points in this forum are quite difficult to get (though, I wouldn't change how you can get them). I noticed that when my computer broke down, I either had no time to enter contests or didn't have Photoshop/ something like it to make sets.
Therefore, I don't think you should ever be allowed to buy custom ranks.

I think, seeing as everyone will have their own personal preference on what is their favourite name, there should be more ranks that are 'unlockable'.
For example, when you get to the current 'Yaoi Queen', you unlock both a name called Yaoi King and Yaoi Queen (Maybe even Prince and Princess if it takes anybody's fancy) but if you go past that and get to Yaoi Legend (I don't know the exact order so that might not be the next rank) you can still choose to use Yaoi King/ Queen/ Amateur/ etc. from before.
That way, your name is personalised and still forum specific.

Due to the fact that people like to go up in ranks, maybe have some on top of Extreme Yaoi Guru (or whatever). It'd make things fun for the people who care about their rank.
I don't know, perhaps the mods and admins could even make a voting/ sugestions thread for new ranks so that they know what kind of things people are looking for *shrugs*
I don't know much about making websites, but I think something like that would be possible. If you were allowed to type whatever you wanted to in there, people would probably take advantage and use things like "Sexy Yaoi Slut" or something.

EDIT: I also agree with GenericWit, the new iShop and generally making sure that the site keeps working properly are more important than this, really.
If something ever changed with the ranking, I think it should be made as a relatively low priority.

Second, this post is merely a little sharing of my thoughts. I hope my intonation sounds positive to you. And, my sincere apology to the in reading you if I might have offended you in any way.
Third, I'm not so comfortable in posting here though (*coughImighthavebeendruggedtheotherdaycough*) but since I already posted, the edit button is quite convenience!

My clever a** opinion, I would say just create a "space" for everyone to type in their desire "title" End of story! XD No points/ posts needed.
We will have the current title and an additional title. That will not lead to spamming problem or whatever it is.

As for others idea, I’ve added in my personal comment~
1. Points to purchase title
First, I understand the simple rule, "There's no free lunch in this world". Whatever you need, you have to work towards it. Similarly, it applies here. If you need points, you have to work for it. Of course, it’s not an easy task to earn points from contest, uploading and blah blah. Majority of us wouldn’t be that lucky to enter some contest and be an Aarin millionaire in just one night. Likewise, not all of us could do uploading/ translating and blah blah to earn more. Yet, we all do work for it~ no matter how With the points we earned, we chucked it in the bank and sustained on 1% interest each day. Well, then again, it only applies to a majority of us who care about points.

Secondly, I'm never active in other forums except this~ due to various real life reasons. So, I wouldn't know whether the points thingy and the Ishop consider a unique feature in Aarin or not. But, I certainly understand when it comes to a point that cards or points no longer attractive to you, what for you need that much of points? You wouldn't be free to hold a contest everyday (like duh we don't have a life) and you can't even donate anonymously or whatever way to get rid offs the points.
It could be interesting if we could come up with something to burn the points.
I wouldn't say the idea is bad, but only restrict 1 million points above titles, that is bad, real sucks. It manifested the status quo that you are filthy rich (One million is only peanuts to you) No offense, k?!
All markets have its player. I should say if this idea is implemented, it will only be fair that people could buy "titles" at various points, ranging from the cheapest to the most expensive. Just like how the cards function in the Ishop. (Oh, yeah, speaking of this, I demand a cheaper version of every character in the shop. Not all people craze over expensive cards ) Instead, for the convenience of everyone, the existing titles should remain and we’ll just add in the additional titles below for points- spending purpose.
Then again, how creative can the titles be, I leave it to the rest of you to feed in opinions.
You wouldn’t want to buy yourself a title “YaoiForbes/ AarinForbes” when you reached > 600million above, right? Just joking, I’m sure the names can be very creative.

(Side Note: If customization of titles can be easily done, I think it would be easy for people to demand for customized cards to be sold in Ishop or even a customized rep bees/ bunnies )

2. To unlock titles when reaching certain posts/ level
The unlocking titles will certain be better than my not so creative idea but I'm not sure whether it's difficult to implement it or not. Or perhaps, it's something not at all exciting. I wouldn't know.
However, I certainly think it leads to spamming problem whether intentionally or unintentionally to reach that post count to transform into other titles.
I mean how can people spam intentionally? I don't understand.
Like myself, I like to establish conversation while I'm in a contest cuz I'm interacting with people (it suppose to be lively) not machine (unlike playing arcade games, computer games, or even psp). I’m not trying to prove innocent here~ I’ll bear in mind that no spamming; to save myself from trouble and to keep people away from trouble too.

3. Special reward/ titles to the contributors
First of all, I would like to say thank you to all of you who contributed. In my humble opinion, not only people who donate money is a contributor, those people who help to do manga uploading, anime uploading, they are all contributor. Those who share their fanart/ drawings or even writing a fiction and so on, they are all contributors. In short, we all have our own capability in contributing.
Frankly speaking, I'm not a frequent donor myself and I only contribute a small amount of money. It wouldn't make me feel any better if special titles/ reward are given to me. *shrugs* For me, I donate because I'm capable in doing so (without begging a single cent from my parent) and I do get lots of fun, manga and anime here. I mean Aarinfantasy has given me this much of stuff, it's only normal if I do something in return. Just like I’m trying to picture myself donating to support a charity and often asked myself do I donate for their sake or is it because I wanted something in return?
Or maybe I’m still living in my own wonderland, perhaps charity nowadays do give premier gifts or special treatment to people who donate. That I wouldn’t know. XD

Aarinfantasy is a site to satisfy all members who crave for yaoi (that’s the initial motive of this site) to give us a place to have fun and such. Donations is needed to support the forum, I personally think that Aarinfantasy is not something to be valued in such a way. When you give a donation, you gain something in return. XD
Might as well, we just turn it into an exclusive site, donate x amount for a year then you'll enjoy your pleasant stay here with ultimate downloads or whatever. XD

Since it's only an open discussion (not as if it's gonna implement), I might as well say, having more features would only contribute to more problems to the mods and admins.
I'm sure with their wisdom, they might have thought of it before, I think it's the matter of "do-able" or not.
From getting it implement to monitoring the abuser or whatever, would be one of the defect. And, also don’t forget that we have to take the financial funding into the account. But for people who care, would be something exciting.
(P/S: Speaking of abuser, I’m one myself. Sorry to have caused so much trouble)

On the subject of spamming:

Post count does not increase in many of the sub-forums, such as Community Cafe, Forum Games, and Contests and Trivia. We already combat spam in the Yaoi Mania forums ... I report posts as soon as I see them. So I don't think rewarding high post count with custom rankings would create a great deal of spam.

On complaining that you will never get so many points:

Well lol yes, perhaps. You do have to work at getting points. I worked for mine. I played games, and then chucked it all in the bank. I was very sparing with how I spent them. And now look at me ... 17 million points. Now that's just silly. Why on earth do I need so many points. I can't even think of ways to give them away (and now with anonymous donations turned off on card-gifting ... meh). FYI, I only had about 100,000 pts after my first year here. So, yeah. You do have to work at it. I've been here for 3 1/2 years now.

I think fixing the iShop problems is way more difficult than allowing custom ranks, which is just a few clicks work if I remember it correctly.
But I agree with Artemis, we're just voicing our opinions here and it's up to Dai-kun to make decisions.
