Aarinfantasy Merchandise

I thought it would be cool to be able to buy like, T-shirts and stuff with aarinfantasy logos and stuff. Like, a cafepress store or something? It would be cool because we could buy cool stuff, and aarinfantasy could make some extra money for the forums. Well, just a suggestion.

could be an interesting idea in general (I know of some ppl who use http://www.spreadshirt.com for selling their own tshirts), but I'm not sure if Aarinfantasy wants to use this means of advertising (and that's what merchandise is about, even if many ppl like all the nifty things you get).

don't get me wrong, I love the site and appreciate very much the work Aarin and the other admins and mods do, but eg tshirts with 'Aarinfantasy.com' on it might attract the wrong ppl to come here.
this site deals with fansubbing, scanlations and raw scans, all of them are at least legally disputable in many countries concerning copyright infringement. so it might not be a good idea to plaster the open with it. it might cause, too, that even more scanlation teams decide, not to share their scanlations here, anymore, because of the greater publicity.

other that that it could also mean that ppl come here who are not interested in BL but just follow the web address on the coffee mug or tshirt but are definetly not in favour of same sex love. this could get flame wars to arise when these ppl decide to have a 'funny evening' before leaving again. I like here especially that we have very very seldom flame wars or rude behaviour, that could become more often when ppl come here not looking for BL or yaoi but because of some kind of advertising.

but, even if I gave negative examples here, that doesn't mean that I am against it. I just wanted to point out problems which might arise when the site itself is advertised in the public and not to special groups of interest who are in favour of BL, scanlations and fansubbing.

so I would suggest not to use the name of the site itself (at least not as the main part of the shirt design for example) on the stuff but other means or designs which are not so open to ppl not involved, but are identyfiable to insiders.

personally, I would like buying from her shop when the design appeals to me, the shipping is payable to my country and the payment is comfortable, eg paypal or cc.

I agree with Yavannah... I'd actually thought about this idea in the past but then decided it would pose too many problems. Drawing the wrong people to our forum could end really badly. Even in the forum being shut down entirely by someone who is angry about the shota contained in here, or about the licensed works contained in here, or about not wanting their children to ever be here.

It's too much of a risk, one that I don't necessarily think we should take... Plastering this site all over everyone's chest and such will just have them coming here with an excuse to either bark at us angrily or get us shut down. Don't want to draw in the wrong crowd, and when putting yourself so out in the open like that, it's inevitable at some point you'd bring in the wrong person. And it only takes one wrong person to end all of this.

At the very least in one of those situations all of the licensed works would have to be gotten rid of, and that's not good at all... Loveless, Sukisyo, Gravitation, Yami no Matsuei, Sensitive Pornograph, Boku no Sexual Harassment, Level C, Kizuna, Kyou Kara Maou... and many others more, would all have to be gotten rid of, because they are all licensed. We wouldn't have much of a forum left then, would we? ;-;

You could always use some sort of code that only Aarin fans would know, so if we saw someone else wearing the shirt we could just smile and know we were friend... like a tshirt that just says...

I can't really say I think your idea is a good idea ^^;; It'd be like: we don't want people to know we're from aarinfantasy.com so let's put johndoe.com on our shirts!! yeah!! er... where's the point? O_o Besides those freakishly long abbreviations would just look... well... freaky XD it's not like my entire life consists of anicons ^^;; I actually go out in the streets sometime also... if it's just going to be an abbreviation, you might as well make the shirt yourself instead of buying one here! If you really reeeeeeally want an aarinfantasy shirt, it'd be better to make it something good, like maybe a custom made piece of art especially made for aarinfantasy.com O_o that way everyone would recognize it without immediately giving away the origin ^^

But yeah... I also feel the same way as Yavannah... publicity isn't always good... and to be honest... I don't think the advantages will weigh up to the costs...

I would agree that it's not a terribly plausible idea. That would deffinitely draw the wrong element or the eye of "The Man" to us.

I think it's a nice idea but then maybe only items that can be used at home or something like what: tasukiseishi said a coffee mug would be nice or a poster with a nice bishie on it and some things related to this forum

I personally think that having some kind of merchindising is a great idea with the Aarinfantasy banner. it could go from small trinkets to shirts and hats. I think you have a great idea here with as many people that post on this site I for one know I would support this act 100% GO Aarin-Sama!!

Me and Aarin had this idea Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago... but it's something that will be very hard to implement if we decided to do so.

Time is one of our biggest problem.
But it's a fun idea to think about, just we can't do it.

If we could do it. I think we just go with "AF" and "The Y Collection" will be good enough with some kind of design.

I am new but I have not seen anything aarinfantsy related merchandise anywhere so far. I'm suprised, because it seemes to be a very big community all about sharing, and helping out with the site maintenance may also be interesting with something else than donations ?

With artists like Heise who did the forum top banner, i think that there could be some pretty damn good looking merchandise to sell.

Or is it just me rambling ? lol
