Aurora/Deux Press/Luv Luv SALE from Manga Factory

It's a shame ;__; Here in Latinamerica there's a comicbookstore that make (well, made??) good distribution of their mangas. I bought both Deux and Aurora titles.
I was expecting that maybe Deux-Press finally pick up more of Miyamoto Kano works.
Specially Rules, that's somehow the sequel of Lovers & Souls... X||~

I know - I was hoping they would be exclusive licensor of works by Miyamoto Kano, Kunieda Saika & CJ Michalski. I do hope some entrepreneur will buy them out. $300k doesn't sound expensive for a small biz but it depends on the debt they currently have on their balance sheet as well as other obligations (i.e. previous licensing agreements).

im actually interested in ordering some of these but I kinda wanna see a scanned page sample of some titles. also, im not sure if all the titles are yaoi mangas or not.

Adding to the following ... several days late because I was too lazy to do so before:

The problems vary. What caused Be Beautiful to go defunct began with Libre's accusations of illegally publishing Libre (formerly Biblos) titles. It simply went downhill from there.

It started before that with the financial troubles of Central Park Media (parent company to BB). This means that they were probably not in the financial position to give in to the demands of Libre with regards to the renegotiation of licenses. Were CPM healthy then, they would probably be able to sort out their difference.

With Aurora, I think the problems started with distribution which I think I read somewhere that Borders and some other brick and mortar stores began sending back Aurora books that did not sell or simply were not put in the bookshelves. It wrecks havoc on their sales and profit. Then of course their titles were not bestsellers even though many of their publications are very good. Aurora is a small publisher and unfortunately, they are not as big as Viz, TokyoPop, Del Rey, and even DMP.

And just a general note: Aurora for sale is still a speculation, refuted by an ANN editor.

@sawwie-chan - I think I read at ANN (or from a LJ community) with the BB debacle, that John O'Donnell, former CEO of CPM, flew to Japan to discuss the matter with Libre but it was Libre who did not want to discuss anything with him. Then came the rumors about CPM suing Libre for breach of contract because he thought that the Biblos contracts were still valid.

Aurora has not made any formal announcement about rumors that their business is up for sale. It truly does not look good them. Once more, to those who have yet purchase any Deux/LuvLuv/Aurora publication, do so now while its available and affordable.

I wish I could place an order...but I can't take that risk. I live in a great, super fun yet bizarre country. Technically it is illegal to be homosexual and hence everything related to homosexuality is also illegal. And yet the country has numerous gay bars and clubs and a very large and active gay community. Very interesting and odd contradiction. But given that the order will have to go through customs, I seriously think everything will be confiscated and that 'Ill be fined or worse.

Which country is this? Let's not name names if it makes you uncomfortable but is this the country that is featured in Youka Nitta's "The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy" that is in SE Asia? Give us a hint

I have heard that in some of the strictest muslim countries where pornography is banned, it is actually supposed to be easy to bribe the law officers w/ it. Although I must said it would have taken some amazing skills to carry it off (how does one do it?)

Not SE Asia. The Middle East (Levant area to be precise). The country was voted no1 holiday destination last summer by the New York Times. Great clubbing, superb bars and pubs, fine restaurants. Great beaches and mountains. Party-hard, fun-loving people. Rich mix of Christians and Muslims. Had a long civil war in the past. I think you have more than enough clues now. The law about homosexuality is very strange considering we have the largest homosexual population in the entire region (and most people are open about their sexuality). Three of my friends are gay guys and they're all out of the closet, living an openly gay lifestyle with their partners, going to gay bars and clubs etc.

Oh - I would love to visit but I am sure it is too expensive. Yes, I read that the written law has it homosexuality is still a delit there but it has been rated as one of the top 10 cities for vibrant gay scenes.

The cultural & historical sceneries look simply amazing though.

It is worth the visit (regardless of orientation), so start saving up. The city has an addictive vibe and is positively pulsing with energy (and I lived abroad most my life and travel regularly, so I have ample points of comparison). And the culture and history are both fabulously rich and very diverse for such a small place. We're expecting 4 million tourists this summer which is a lot considering that the entire country's population is 4.5 million. LOL. But yes, you definitely picked up on the irony and contrast between the written law and reality.

But I still wish I could place an order. Oh well, I'll go clubbing tonight to try to compensate.....
