Advertising (The Rule Explained)

It seems some people have trouble understanding what's allowed and what isn't where advertising is concerned. I hope the following clears up any confusion:

What is Advertising?
Creating a link or statement directing people to another website other than aarinfantasy.com or aarinsecret.com or trying to use this community as a tool to sell product whether online or at events is advertising.

What is Inappropriate Advertising?
We are not allowed to Create threads for for the purpose of advertising - as defined above.

Using aarinfantasy as a means of SELLING product is certainly not allowed.

What is allowed?
it is allowed to post a link in your signature only. The only restrictions are the basic site signature size conditions and any material/subject matter disallowed by the Main Rules of this site.

Well, is it considered advertising when we direct people to other websites that contain quiz and other similar material?

Well, we shouldn't be creating threads linking to quizes - other than Shonen-ai/Yaoi or BL related quizzes.

The allowed quizzes are an exception. Youtube videolinks can still be posted in the existing thread.

Another exception is: In the Tech Help section or in similar cases, A user may request info that may require someone giving them an external link - that is allowed.

The purpose of this rule isn't to totally stop people from sharing useful links.

It's purpose is to stop people from creating spam threads for the purpose of generating traffic to another site.
(eg: Creating a thread: "Hey, everybody - look at my website." etc)

... am I making sense?

If i make a reference to a link in my signature, is that allowed ?

Example: [There's a link to my personal blog in my signature]
[my post] -Hey, check out my blog and you'll find some information about that..

I'm not sure if it's advertising or not, but I want to share information about the Broadcast Treaty the Treaty on the Protection of Broadcasting Organizations.... I felt the information was pertinent but wasn't sure if I can link...

Let's say I have a banner for the website I want to advertise, and it's in regulations. Can I still link it even without stating what it is? Or do I have to?

As long as you don't create a thread for it. You can only put it inyour signature.
