[Solved] Ad-ware
While checking to see if some of my host links had expired, I managed to contract some ad-ware onto this computer. Can someone pleeeease help me get it off? This isn't my computer - it's my dad's, and wouldn't it be lovely if he came home from vacation and took this thing apart, only to find loads of bishie on bishie action? Well, not loads, but cruising through aarin, it's impossible not to encounter that stuff.
I believe one of the viruses is called Outerinfo. Of course I've already "uninstalled" it, but the ads keep popping up. Spybot seems to find them but tells me they are "in use" and so it can't delete them (thanks, Spybot). I just d/led Firefox and that seems to keep them from coming, but my dad uses IE so this is not a permanent solution.
Please, any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Have you already tried running Ad-aware from Lavasoft.com?
Their free version works very well for me. Don't know if It'll get rid of everything... but it might help...

I am not familiar with this spyware nor how to remove it, but here is a thread from lavasoft that deal with someone infected by Outerinfo http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index...4&hl=outerinfo. Hope it can help you clean those nasty popup. You can also do a search on that forums for more topics regarding how to remove them. Or you can become its forum member and ask for help from there.

Thanks guys, I'll try all that as soon as I get home from work and let y'all know if it helps

Miko, I d/led Ad-aware and it claimed to have fixed some problems, but the pop-ups are still occuring. They pop up when I use Firefox, too, they just pop up in IE.
mimosa, that info looked interesting but I'm afraid it's too complicated for me  It's also a year old I think so I'm not sure.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please, help me out...
Even as I am typing this, "System Doctor" keeps popping up and trying to get me to install it...

Press ctrl+alt+del and end up all the suspicious processes and try to remove with Spybot. You can also try going safe mode pressing F8 when you start the computer. After trying to do that, post a HijackThis log here.

Thanks. I'm not sure what to do. I don't know what HijackThis is and it looks like I have to d/l it. If it were my personal computer I'd do it, but since it isn't, I'm not sure I feel comfortable d/ling program after program trying to fix this. But I may have no choice.
I'll decide what to do when I get home from work in an hour. If I d/l the HijackThis thing, I'll post the log then... whatever the "log" is lol
I forgot about Safe Mode. I'll reboot into that and run Spybot and AVG Anti-spy and see if they get it.

Running Spybot in safe mode seems to have done the job :) Thank you guys so much for your help
