Photoshop Freezing

I have Photoshop CS3 and every time I click on "open", the program freezes and I have to force it to shut down (ctrl+alt+del). I'm not getting any messages. The "open file" window shows up for a split second then disappears and the program is totally frozen.

I have...
-updated the program fully
-uninstalled and reinstalled it
-system restore
-unplugged my external drive and my printer to see if they were interfering

And still having the same issue. It was working fine yesterday but today the issue showed up. According to my anti-virus, it doesn't find anything either. So I'm not sure what is going on. I run on Windows XP pro. I have googled the issue and most say it's a networking printer. I don't have my printer networked and plus I removed it and it's still having the issue.

Have you tried clearing the settings?

The suggestion is to start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift and click "yes" to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?" (or something like that).

I believe you have to hit START then go to PROGRAMS and select PS from there while holding down the three buttons (versus clicking on desktop icon or shortcut).

I just tried it and still doesn't work

Everything else works on the program, just not when I want to open a file from within the program.

Oh! Okay, I was thinking of the wrong thing

What about this:

When trying to open a file, press ESC right after. It also says pressing CTRL+SHIFT+S (save-as) supposedly resizes the window to it's default size (not sure about that part but put it here just in case).

Maybe?

I just heard about that but I googled it too to make sure I was remembering the right thing Last thing you need is for me to make it worse
