Laptop going off every 8 mins

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. The screen dims off every 8 mins. No matter how much I set the mins to go off 60 mins or more, it just keeps going off 8 mins. Before, it was 20 mins. I can't figure out the problem.

Edit: Nevermind. I found out that I just decreased the mins and the timing goes up. Weird...

oh my gawd, same here, i'm using acer btw...
for my case, i think its because i always keep it switched on for too long that the thermal sensor is damaged or something = = i.e. the laptop gets overheated then automatically switch itself off for its good sake ... 0,0

and another cause of it would be infected with VIRUS!

I don't know about the virus thing, but with the case with me, i increased the minutes, so I had to decrease it. So, that way, I can watch my videos and such.

mmmm...That is weird...If you want I can try ask to some people that can give good replies of this kind of problems (since they had helped me a lot xD)
Only if you want of course, in case they don't help or so I can ask to a informatics friend of mine if you want *I can ask him 1st but I don't want to...<< I mean bother him all the time xD*

It isn't a virus, no virus I know does such a thing
Acer quality is meh when it comes to laptops and several things can cause it depending on what the user does with the laptop. I know people who overclocked their graphics card and that had this problem because of it.
But care to share this important bit of info, does it happen while you are busy clicking/typing or when you are idle (not doing any button or mouse action, like watching a video full screen), this is important to know to figure out if it is due to perhaps your settings or if it is because your graphics card is either buggered or you just need a reinstall of your drivers..

OP solved his/her problem but are you having a same problem Biscuit, or not?
If not then lets give this thread some well deserved rest =)

This once happen to me, my laptop shut down very 10 minutes. What happened was my laptop motherboard is overheated and burned... So I had to change the motherboard and now it works fine. So may be this is your problem, if you use your laptop for long hours - this usually happen.
