Enzai: BGM not loading.
Okay. I'm running a Japanese 64 bit Windows 7 OS. I have used two separate releases (now downloading a third just in case) and I have the same issue everytime. I get an error message that says "File[bgm_XX.wav] couldn't be opened." This might not be the exact words as I'm translating it myself. XX is where the number for the wav file would be.
I have tried full install and I'm positive I've used full install. Voice acting and sound effects work fine, it's only the bgm that's not loading. I didn't have this issue on my Windows XP computer, if that helps.
To clarify, I believe both of these are rips of the J-List release of Enzai. One is in cue and bin format and the other is self-contained, neither work. I have also used the aarinfantasy upload which I believe is the one that worked on my old computer and had the same issue. I am giving Enzai admin rights and running in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Hello JessicaWonka!
Quick question: Where did you install Enzai?
-
I installed it into the default location several times then in a custom location several times.
-
I'm having this problem too. Did it ever get resolved?
-
Not to my knowledge, yet...
How big is your "bgm.arc" file in the Enzai folder?
EDIT:
Can you please download this WAV file and see if you can listen to it? Let me know if you hear anything:
bgm_01.wav
If you cannot hear anything, then maybe the codec for this is missing. It is a WAV file, but it appears to be a Microsoft ADPCM, which kinda does have a codec...
Try downloading this codec pack and installing it, and try again:

The file is 121mb. I can hear this wav file fine...
-
121MB? All right.
(Wow, I hate how Windows has 4 different numbers for how big a file is...)
Where did you install Enzai, to? Is it in a folder named something similar to: C:\Program Files (x86)\ ....\enzai\ ?
Last question, have you ever moved the game from it's original installation folder, some place else after installing it?
I just did a few tests, involving where the game was installed, and what would happen if I moved it.
The game looks for the Archive files (.ARC) in the original folder it was installed to, if they aren't there, the game starts falling apart.
-
Yeah, I installed to a folder like that and didn't move it after installing. Well actually, I copied the whole downloaded game from my old laptop but reinstalled everything on the new one, so I don't think that's the problem...
-
Hmm, what version of Windows are you running?
And, for now, make a backup of your SAVE folder somewhere safe. Try un-installing the game, then re-installing the game someplace else, by changing the default install location from C:\Program Files (x86)\ to somewhere like C:\games\ (Make this folder if it doesn't exist)
Try running the game after it's been freshly installed, before putting your save files back. Let me know if you hear any audio.

Windows 7. That didn't work either. Oh well, no biggy. Thanks for your help though.

I was just passing by and I'm having the same issue, but I have the solution for it in case someone have the issue in the future...
The thing is... Enzai is a Windows 98 game, so because old games requires CDs, some OSs don't recognize automatically the music audio files since they are presented in the original CD, so unless you can emulate the original CD somehow doesn't matter what you try it won't work...
I'm a PC retro enthusiast, I bought the game digitally and installed on my Windows 98 SE, and It works, but it causes the same error after the opening and during the game, only for BGM, SE runs fine... Now I'm trying to search for if I can find the original English CD for this even if it requires me buying the physical copy, but I can only find for Absolute Obedience unfortunate... for that game probably It will have the same issue...
Just one observation if someone finds the image for this... the file needs to be in .cue or .BIN format and not ISO. (ISO can't recognize audio files from it)
