Subtitle files in mkv. .HELP?? [RESOLVED]

Ok. so I have separated the mkv file into the three main parts: video, audio, and subtitle file. I have converted the video file into an .avi and the audio is converted into the appropriate format as well. I'm ready to merge the two with VirtualDubMod. Now here is where my problem lies. The subtitle file is an .ass file and the filter TextSubs is SUPPOSED to support it but it doesn't want to merge the subtitle file with my video file for some reason. .like when I try to add the file the "OK" button isn't clickable at all. . .can anyone give me feedback on how to solve? I was thinking of converting the .ass file into .srt but I'm not really sure how to do that. I tried using Subtitles Workshop but it says the file is a bad subtitle or in an unsupported file format. .and it supports .ass files. .Oh if it helps the mkv file is an episode of Romeo x Juliet from Umai subs I downloaded.

Hmm... to convert file types.. I'm not really sure but sometimes this works for me:
Depending on your computer settings, there might or might not be a little extension at the back of your filename showing the file type. Just rename the file and instead of .ass change it to .srt

If there isn't a file extension then to get the file extension to show up:
Go to My Computer => Tools => Folder Options =>(A little window should pop up) then click the View tab=> Uncheck the box which says Hide extension for Known filetypes => Apply => Ok

Then rename your file...

If .ass is a type of subtitle file then it might change to .srt. This works with changing image types for me so I hope this helps.

I've already tried this but thanks anyway. I think .ass and .srt files are too different to do so this way, unfortunately.

There's nothing to apologize for. ^^ I'm just going to keep searching till I find an answer. I heard there was a way to overlay the .ass subs into the file so they are hardsubbed instead of softsubbed. .but I haven't found a way to do that yet. .else I'll just wait for the avi subbers to release their version. XD

Tried it and it said my subtitles were corrupt. =/ I dont know why though

I've been messing a bit with subs lately and found out that .ass and .ssa support on Subtitle Workshop is not very good. Take a look at some subtitling software comparison here:

Still, just for opening the .ass subs and saving in another format, Subtitle Workshop should be enough... Maybe you could try downloading the latest version of Subtitle Workshop, if you don't have the latest... I think I came across this problem once, but I don't remember if I just tried re-installing or upgrading Subtitle Workshop... Or you could try other subtitling programs, like the ones in the comparison above.

Ok thanks everyone. all - to -avi works. XD Turns out when I tried downloading the one encoded with h264 it was able to encode without a problem. The Xvid encoded one was giving me a problem. My problem is resolved now.
