Help with Lamento - Beyond the Void

I did everything the installation guide told me to do but I can't proceed further than the first choice despite reopening the game from the save point several times.
Everything before the choice: "Think about the sacrifice; Don't think about the sacrifice" is running fine.

Does the game just... stop playing at this point? Just the background, and no text? If so, here's something to try:

Return your System Locale to your default (English United States, or whatever you had previously), then change it BACK to Japanese, and try again.

Besides that, the game was installed perfectly! All the files are in order, and the installation location is spot-on, too!
