Hi, I just downloaded the game and I followed the steps, but when I opened the game before putting the eng patch to make sure it worked (as the steps said) the screen is all black, and when I want to close it, it doesn't close.
Here's a screenshot
Don't worry! ^^ The game will work, you just NEED the English patch. It's the only one that works with that EXE. Finish following the guide, and put your flavour of the English patch in there.
Don't forget!!! DON'T USE THE WINDOWS 10 patch! That is STRICTLY for people who BOUGHT Lamento. The normal version is the one you want!

I did as you said, but when I open the exe, the window just stays black and I can't close it :(

Would you be able to take a screenshot of the folder where you installed Lamento to show us? ^^

Thanks for the screenshot!
I see you're missing two files that are part of the LmtDVDVer103, and the NSS patch you currently have is an older one. I realize my guide mentions version 2.3, but I need to update that... Sorry. ^^;; Here's a link to the latest script: nss-fullpatchver2.4
Also, just to make sure... Your System Unicode Locale is set to Japanese, right? You've played other Japanese Visual Novels before and they worked? Sometimes games will be black like this when your System Unicode Locale isn't set to Japanese. This option does NOT change your computer's language, and it's NOT the timezone function. It's an option that allows Japanese computer games to run on your computer, and display text in some instances.

AAAH that's true, but no mather how many times I open it and finish the proccess, the archives never appear :/ and yes, was the first time I did, because I remember it from DRAMAtical Murder and Toigainu no Chi.

Hmm hmm! o.o Nothing happens when you run LmtDVDVer103.EXE? You're telling it the proper location for the installed game, I bet? Hmm....
What program did you use for mounting ISO's? For poops and giggles, try mounting a random ISO (it doesn't need to be Lamento's) and run the game again.
The "NoDVD" exe has a weird quirk where if there's nothing mounted in the original virtual drive AT ALL, it will complain (In English, no yet) that there's no DVD in the drive. Even sillier, it gives you three options to try and 'fix' the problem, but hitting 'Cancel' or 'Abort' doesn't actually do anything, and the game still technically runs. Just mount any old ISO (seriously), and try the game again. XD;;
Also, one last silly question... Is your Drive D an External HD, Memory Card or a Solid State Drive?

Hi there, I also have trouble with downloading the game. I cannot run LmtDVDVer101 and LmtDVDVer102 so I tried to run LmtDVDVer103 instead and followed your advice (as well as copy/paste the Lmt no DVD). But the game is still in blank. Here are the photos ;;, thank you
P/S: Im on Win10 and I already set my language into Japanese
Don't worry about not being able to run LmtDVDVer101 or LmtDVDVer102. LmtDVDVer103 is the important one (and contains the same stuff in the first two anyways).
I noticed you installed Lamento in the default location, instead of choosing a different location to put it. This will help because Lamento makes save games in the same folder it was installed into, and for Windows 7, 8 and 10, any games in the "Program Files (x86)" or "Program Files" folders sometimes have issues putting files in there.
I'm not sure if that may help or not, but it's worth a shot! Otherwise, everything else looks fine and goodly installed. I've noticed an odd quirk recently with the game, where it pretends to fail to startup if there's no "DVD" in the drive. So if your ISO mounting program/drive doesn't have anything in it (unmounted), Lamento may complain.
But it's just being stupid. It'll still run the game anyway. Try mounting something? Anything, really. It doesn't even need to be Lamento. It can be whatever ISO you feel like.

Hi Kojichan,
I tried to move Lamento to a different location and the game didn't start T_T it's still blank. My daemon tool was opened and nicely mounted too. :(( I'm so sad right now

How strange! But that will help later, so keep it installed elsewhere. ^^;;
Out of curiosity, you set up the System Unicode Locale to Japanese THIS way, right? (See image)
You also made sure to restart the computer, I'm sure. XP Have you played any other visual novels? Like DRAMAtical Murder, Togainu no Chi, etc?
Yes yes, I have finally been able to play the game. I cannot thank you enough, Kojichan :hearteyes:

Hello all! Thanks to the instructions on this thread I was able to get the game running, but unfortunately it is still in Japanese. I navigated to Index of /patches and downloaded [Nitro+CHiRAL] Lamento Ver. 1.03 Patch (DVDROM).rar thinking it might be the english patch, but when I extracted its contents and applied it, the .exe file will not work (no error message, the game window just doesn't open).
I then would have to replace the .exe file in [Nitro+CHiRAL] Lamento noDVD Patch (required for AGTH).rar in the game root file to get the game working again (in Japanese). Does anyone have a quick answer to what it is I am doing wrong?
As usual, thank you so much for the help.

Those patches aren't the English patches for the game, unfortunately. Just a Serial number, version update, and Anti-antipiracy patch.
Uninstall Lamento, and try again from the beginning. ^^ Each step is separated and easy to follow.
Oh gosh, I realised applying ver2.4 of the patch instead of the win10 version solved my problems. Thank you!

Hello! I followed all the steps as posted, but the most I was able to get out of the game was a blank screen opening up and hanging for a couple seconds before closing itself up. I had tried opening it without the English patch for testing yet would receive no window. Here are some screen shots. I've been trying to tackle this for a few hours now and I'm wanting to get this up and running for a friend since they're wanting to playthrough the story. Attachment 175660Attachment 175661:?:(

Hi, try to use this, Locale Emulator, if you wanna play the original one. Lamento is not camparable with windows 10, though there's a windows 10 version.

If not, I'll go over a step-by-step process. I'm sorry it's gonna look huge, but it's explained in simple terms to make it easier to follow. ^^ If you already have some of these steps done, just find the appropriate step you need.
Also, I put each part in SPOILER tags so it doesn't look as scary, and you can go through each part separately. Click the [SHOW] button to open the next step as you go!
---------------
Part 1 - Setting your System Locale to Japanese
First of all, you need to make sure your computer has it's System Locale set to Japanese. This is a requirement to play any Japanese Visual Novels. Here is a link to instructions on how to do that: http://aarinfantasy.com/forum/f360/t...ml#post4219281
Please restart your computer once your System Locale is set to Japanese.
---------------
Part 2 - An ISO Mounting Program
Now, you will need an ISO mounting program. It will make your computer think you have another DVD drive, and will let you install these games. Here is one for you that is really simple: https://www.redfox.bz/en/download.html (Find the section marked: Freeware then look for the program: Virtual CloneDrive and click on the blue download icon)
It's called Virtual CloneDrive, and once it's installed, all you need to do to mount an ISO is to doubleclick on the ISO, then it's there! ^^
---------------
Part 3 - Archive extraction program
Most of the games you will find will be split into smaller files. This is to make it easier to share. So you will need a program that will let you get at the files. A program called 7-Zip will let you do this: http://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1514-x64.exe Install that and then we'll continue!
---------------
Part 4 - Downloading the Game
Next we'll need a copy of the game we want, in this case, Lamento! Visit this post: http://aarinfantasy.com/forum/f145/t...ml#post4338412 And then download each of the links provided. They're numbered "Part 1" through to "Part 10". Download them one at a time. It will take a while, unfortunately, but they should all be there! (I checked most of them quickly)
Save them all into a folder that is easily accessible, like on your Desktop or in your Downloads folder.
---------------
Part 5 - Extracting and Mounting the game ISO
Once you have them all saved, you can RIGHT click on "Lamento_~BtV~_(DVD).part01.rar", select "7-Zip" and choose "Extract here". Give it a little time to extract the ISO...
Afterwards you'll have some new files, but what you want right now is the file "LAMENTO_DVD.ISO". If you see two files named "LAMENTO_DVD", we want the bigger one (about 1.9GB big in size). Double-click on it, and it should now mount on your computer! ^_^
---------------
Part 6 - Installing the game! ^_^
Your computer should have popped up a window asking if you want to run the Installer, so go ahead and do that. If it didn't, open up your "My Computer" option and open the Lamento DVD to run the installer" "install.exe"
Click on "Game Install" in the black window with the kitty-man, then look for the second button with the "次へ (N)>" and click that.
The installer is now asking for a serial code, which you can find in the folder where you extracted the ISO to. It's called, "コノエたん.txt". Open that up and copy the numbers into the installer.
Afterwards click the second button with the "次へ (N)>".
This is where you need to select a new save location for the game. Please, please, PLEASE do not use the default location! Click the button with the (R) in it (On the right), and choose Just C:\, and then click "次へ (N)>".
In this window, leave the checkbox, and click "次へ (N)>" to continue.
Then once more click "次へ (N)>".
Let it do it's install....
After it's done it'll popup with a question. It's asking if you want a Desktop Icon for Lamento. Your choice. ^^
The next window that pops up is asking if you want to start the game. DESELECT the checkbox, and click the "完了" button, it's the second one.
---------------
Part 7 - Update the Game core
Now we have to patch the game to a version that the English Patch uses!
Go back to the folder where you extracted the Lamento DVD ISO, and find the file named "LmtDVDVer103", and run it. Click "OK", and now we wait for a while...
After a bit a window will pop up. It should say...
アップデートが終了しました。
With an OK button. This is NOT an error! It just says it was patched successfully. ^^ If it says anything other than the above, let me know and we'll try to fix it. o.O;;
---------------
Part 8 - Replace the program with a NoDVD version.
Go back into the folder where you extracted the ISO, and find a file named "Lamento -BEYOND THE VOID-.exe", and COPY the file.
Now we need to find the folder where Lamento was installed. You do remember, right? ^^ It should be on your main computer, under C:\Lamento -BEYOND THE VOID- DVD\ -OR- C:\NitroplusCHiRAL\Lamento -BEYOND THE VOID- DVD\ . Find that folder, and then PASTE the program file you copied earlier.
COPY AND REPLACE the file! It's perfectly fine to overwrite it!! ^_^
---------------
Part 9 - Verify the Game runs
This is just a small step to check if the game's working... We just need it to start up. So go ahead and doubleclick on "Lamento -BEYOND THE VOID-.exe" and start the game. If it opens and it starts normally, we're good! XP CONTINUE!
If it doesn't, then let me know! o.o
---------------
Part 10 - Downloading the English Patch
You will need to download two files.
The first one is: nss-fullpatchver2.4.npaDownload and save it in the folder where you installed Lamento (You remember, right? ^^)
Now you need to choose! The English Patchers have two graphics patches available. One is just for the in-game buttons and menu, or the second one which also includes DECENSORED graphics of the smut scenes.
Make sure to save the one you pick in the same folder you installed Lamento.
Now with both of the English patches saved, we need one last step... Gotta rename the files for them to work properly! The game won't be in English unless we do this!
So goto the folder you installed Lamento, and RENAME the files you just downloaded. Rename "nss-fullpatchver2.4.npa" to "nss-patch.npa". Then rename whichever CG pack you downloaded to "cg-patch.npa".
---------------
Once that's done, your folder should look like mine:
PLEASE IGNORE THE FACT THAT I HAVE A FILE NAMED "Lamento -BEYOND THE VOID-.bak". It's just a backup of the program I made. Purely my own choice, you won't have it!
Let me know how it turned out for you! ^^
I followed all the steps but when I try to run the game it opens but it's just a black screen. I'm not very good with stuff like this so if anyone knows what I did wrong please explain it to me? Thanks guys. :)

I installed the game on Win 10, everything seems to be going pretty smoothly, UNTIL I get to the first choice:
Then it just stops, like the game just hangs? right-clicking still works, the shortcut buttons still work, but there's nothing showing up onscreen, just the background image. I've already waited for about 10 minutes to see if anything would load, but nothing. Should i just reinstall?
To add: i'm using patch 103, i haven't used the win10 patch since i haven't dl'ed the update from n+c, could that be the problem?

i can't get this game to install
I don't know what to do. I have been trying for the past 2 days to get this game to load and it won't. I can't even get it to install on my computer. It reaches about the halfway point and then I get this error message. No matter where I try to install the game it comes back with the same error message. I looked though several threads and no one's had the same issue as me. I'm at a loss here. T_T

This may not help you, but it looks like the Sound data is corrupt, somehow.
How are you installing Lamento? Is it a DVD ISO? Or is it on your harddrive somewhere?
If it's on your harddrive, you may have accidentally installed it overtop of where you downloaded it.
If it's an ISO, check to make sure your computer has enough space on it's harddrive, first, and if worse comes to worse, you might have to redownload it or find another place to download it from.

Yes that's what the problem turned out to be. I deleted the files I had and downloaded again from another source and it loaded just fine. I did panic for a minute when I opened the game and it was still in Japanese. Turned out I was using the wrong english patch. So I corrected my mistake and the now the game runs properly for me. Thank you for your help. :-)

With an OK button. This is NOT an error! It just says it was patched successfully. ^^ If it says anything other than the above, let me know and we'll try to fix it. o.O;;
I followed all the steps and all I get is an blackscreen when the game starts. I even have trouble starting DmmD after I installed Lamento...
Know a way to fix it?

It's been a while for me for Lamento, but I vaguely recall that when this black screen happened, you can try turning OFF the System Unicode Locale (setting it back to your native region), restarting the computer, then RE-SETTING it back to Japan, and restarting. Make sure it's the System Unicode Locale, and not the date/time/language of the PC.
Failing that, are you able to take a screenshot of the folder where Lamento is installed? And are you playing the English patch, or the vanilla Japanese version? If you're playing the English patch, keep in mind that the English patch was based off of a specific "patch" version of Lamento, so if your Japanese version of Lamento wasn't the right version before you installed the patch, it might not work.
Lastly, I also vaguely recall sometimes SoftDenchi needs to be run at least once before Nitro+CHiRAL games work properly, even if they're cracked.

Hi, just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful installation guide. I have just installed this right now, and it's working perfectly (and hoping I won't get any errors during while playing!)
I know this is a weird question to ask, but if I want to play this in Japanese, I just have to delete the nss and cg patches I've put in the folder, right? If I do delete them halfway playing the game, will my save files be affected?

Perchance does anyone have trouble Extracting the parts? I get Part 1 extracted just fine, and then when I go to extract parts 2-10 and it gives me an Error "Data Error in Lamento_Dvd.ISO File is broken" Before I try to extract parts 2-10 the .ISO is fine, it has information in it. After I try extracting 2-10 it erases everything inside. I'm using 7zip to Extract and have tried using both download posts.

Parts? Have you downloaded a multi-part ZIP file? (Where one zip is split into many tiny smaller ones?)
If so, then you don't need to extract the other parts by themselves. They exist so that part #1 can extract completely. When you extract files from part #1, it actually opens up the rest of the parts to get all the data it needs! ^^ It actually isn't split as you expect it to be.
Could you show a screenshot of your files so we could get a better look?

Thank you for the guide to installing this, it'd been quite a while, so figuring out how to get it installed was a challenge for my tiny n tired brain
It's worth noting that Locale Emulator seems to work on this game without any fuss so far... For those that don't want to change their System Locale. (At times I found random apps & especially system apps, would pop up in Japanese at random!)
