Today’s manga is an emotional rollercoaster that slurs preconceived ideas of how the love between two men should be. The author sheds light on a different type of “forbidden relationship,” at least in the eyes of society as a whole.
Tomohisa is a high school student fascinated with clocks as he spent the majority of his childhood being looked after by his grandfather, a watchmaker. Although his grandfather takes great care of clocks entrusted to him, his relationship with his customers leaves a lot to be desired.
One day, describing the pocket watch of a recurring customer as being an “exquisite beauty,” further telling his grandson that the owner of the watch is “quite the beauty” as well, Tomohisa expected the customer to be a beautiful lady. This, of course, wasn’t the case at all. Kagawa-san turned out to be a man.
The story is very subtle, despite the heavy themes it contains. I admire the author for what she’s achieved, for not once did I feel the intolerance of loving someone several decades above your age. Character relationships are well developed, one focussing between Tomohisa and Kagawa, and the other between Kagawa and the grandfather. Tomohisa tries to deepen the relationship Kagawa has with his grandfather, but what are these unknown feelings Tomohisa himself has towards Kagawa?
A yaoi story like nothing I have read before, I give it a 9/10 despite the lack of sex scenes. It currently has five translated chapters, with more to come. If you’re tired of the same old, same old, this one will give you a nice change of pace and be your breath of fresh air.
