It all started with discovering the Panda Boi story in the Velvet Paw anthology. I immediately fell in love with mangaka's style and damn if the Panda Boi story didn't just please me to pieces. In any event, I fell in love with the mangaka, and was ecstatic to learn of what I believe is her first book (*ponders for a moment* -- the mangaka could be a male, but who knows...), Whip On! One of my friends and another lover of the artwork and I ended up placing an order for the same book (amongst other sundry books because we can't just order one). We've both since received the book and fallen harder. Whip On! contains 9 short stories of this amazing mangaka's work. I believe this is her first book, and I am chomping at the bit for more. Her art style is luxurious and she seems unafraid to experiment as almost each story seems to have its own unique style and tone. One thing is certain, her attention to detail is incredible, and one can spend so much time studying each page and losing oneself in the artwork. I really cannot wait to see more from Chouno Shibuki. The stories contained in this volume are varied, some of which involve the steamy love affair of a pair of bartenders, my favourite Panda Boi (coworkers at a zoo get very kinky), a tragic vampire and a catholic priest tale, chefs in lust, karate bois and so much more. There is something for everyone and even if a particular story doesn't grab you, the artwork is certain to. Some of the mangaka's bois are delicate waifs with pixie penis' and others are brawny muscular sorts. I'm just blown away by her varied styles. The bois suit each story perfectly, as does the explicitness of each story. From soft to hard core, it's all represented here. Thankfully there is no censorship, so you are treated to the fullness of this mangaka's clearly devoted love of male appendages. ;-) Explicit? Hell yes. But nothing smacks of non con or kink beyond a bit of very soft bondage. Not your typical yaoi book, and highly... very highly... recommended. I so can't wait for more!
