During the late Tokugawa period, tensions between the bakufu and Choshu clan are rising due to arguments over how to deal with foreigners in Japan. However, unlike the rest of the Choshu clan members, Kusaka Touma wants Japan to develop good relations with foreign nations. To achieve this, he attempts to learn English behind his clan's back. A man named Akizuki Keiichirou decides to become Kusaka's teacher, but their relationship soon grows into something stronger, despite the fact that Akizuki works for Kusaka's clan's enemy, the Tokugawa bakufu.
~from ANN

In Japan, the Tokugawa Era represents a period of change in which the country must decide on how best to deal with its relationships with foreign countries. While many believe in isolationism, especially among the Choshu faction, Touma Kusaka's ideals are against his clan's. He secretly attempts to learn English for the purpose of preparing for the future of an open Japan.

To this end, he gains an ally for his silent struggle in a man named Keiichiro Akizuki, despite the fact that Akizuki is on the opposing side, the Tokugawa shogunate. During the course of their interaction, their bond deepens into something beyond commonality.

It's been a while that I didn't see 3 greats OVA like this. The drawing is marvelous. Plot quite good but no supprise. This drama makes me cry and quite touching. This we can consider as deep romance, enjoy more than the play Romeo and Juliet. We can be familiar with the 2 mains characters of Haru wo Daiteita in here, I think is the same voice too, although the drawing is much better in Fuyu no semi. We can relate this anime to Romeo and Juliette as well as Ai no kusabi. I got to admit the first OVA is a little bit slow to get in to the story but you will attached to the characters soon enough. Sex scene are hot, not to naughty just enough erotic that you want more. It's a must see Yaoi drama anime.

This story is really beautiful. Yet another I didn't make it through without crying. The love story was absolutely beautiful, and the backgrounds and scenery and everything added to the enjoyability. One thing I liked very much was the realistic characters, both in how they were drawn and how they were portrayed regarding their emotions. The main characters weren't exaggerated or turned into something silly for the sake of being cute. Really, the whole thing was beautifully done, though the end was sadly predictable.

The story flowed well, there was just the right number of episodes... but let's be honest, I'd not have been upset to see more happy stuff, but it really is a story about war and the conflicts between two factions, and two young men caught on different sides.

I think this is definitely one of my favorites. Ok I'm still crying, so that's all I can write, but seriously, don't miss this one, you will be missing out on a really deeply touching love story.

Winter Cicada is an anime with great quality of the art, music and storytelling. It is, in my opinion, the perfect yaoi for those who are searching more than just a bunch of graphical scenes with a poor plot, or those who are tired of yaoi clichés and want to watch an anime well made with quality.
The story is set in Japan during the Meiji Era and tells a tale of two young men who are friends but are at service to opposing factions. Akizuki's clan believes that the only way to Japan to develop and become a great nation is opening trade with the western world. Kusaka's clan supports the most conservative position, keeping the traditional Japan as is. They are just friends and this difference of opinion doesn't seems to bring troubles but their relationship develops to a different level and they become romantically envolved. Soon enough the country is facing a civil war between Akizuki's and Kusaka's clans and the two men found themselves as enemies.
The storyline and plot are excellent for a yaoi, it's very romantic, the relationship have a crescent rhytm that leads to the intimate scenes, not so explicit but tastefully done. This is one video I strongly recommend, nice bishies and a beautiful and sad story well developed.

Winter Cicada is bitter sweet.

The Fuyu no Semi or Winter cicada OAV is the most beautiful and depressing story's I have ever had the pleasure to see or read in any anime or manga. The characters where well developed, the plot was wonderful and the ending was nothing less then wonderfully sad.

The main characters, Akizuki Keiichirou and Kusaka Touma are the Tokugawa period's version of romeo and Juliet, there love being held back by the differences between there clans, a feud that would eventually lead to a war which will to change everything for the two proud young men.

I highly recommend this anime to any yaoi fan who is not afraid to fall in love with great characters and cry there eyes out at least once before the final credits roll.

Classical story about Romeo and Juliet but there were 2 boys :).
But I can´t say anything bad because it was really strong anime and it had really fast speed of story...

I recommend this piece...
