The plot is okay but it is how it's written that irks me a lot. Fighter—sacrifice, competition.. that just doesn't work for me. It does have a potential, but it became convoluted. In fact, I didn't even bother finishing it.
Next the characters. I have nothing against couples with a big age gap, but what disturb me most is the way Soubi treats Ritsuka. It's like, borderline shota. I don't like Soubi. He is such a hypocrite. At first, he says he is not a pervert, but the way he treats Ritsuka says it all. I don't like how perfect he is. Nobody's perfect. I like Ritsuka at first, but when Soubi comes in, he becomes weak and I don't like characters without a backbone.
The art is nice. I like the dark atmosphere, only that the plot and characters doesn't have it.
I was looking forward to it, but it felt like I just got rick rolled.
Oh well.. if you like something to past time with BL and cute stuff, this is pretty good for you.
I must admit, the anime is one of my favorite Yaoi animes, pretty much because of the art.
Based on the manga, I personally like the art and the pretty simple storyline.
I must admit, Yamano-sensei's art is the one of best Yaoi arts I've seen!
The characters, well pretty stereotypical, a rebellious uke and a hot-shot seme, but they are both gorgeous.
Plot-wise, it is simple, kind of common and predictable. But nevertheless, it is pretty sexy and gorgeous to make up with that. The anime was cut short, so there are plots and scenes that were taking out from it.
So, if you have seen the anime or not and wants to see two gorgeous guys getting it on with a simple storyline, then this manga is a good read to pass by.
The original webcomic had inspired me to read history/social studies more and even help my grades in school. It also made me proud of my country, especially my city, which I love a lot. It inspired me to do other things too. I'm really proud to come across Hetalia and it's fandom. One of the best.
As a fan who has read the original webcomic, the anime is okay. It's obviously a low-budget animation, only w/ a good cast and a big audience. To tell the truth, I was pretty dissapointed at the things that they took out from the anime, like a censorship or probably to save time. I'm kinda sad that it's only 5 minutes (actually 3 minutes if without the opening sequence and ending). If you have not read the webcomic or been in the fandom, you might not understand some of the jokes in it. The anime looks more of a fanservice rather than a historical gag manga.
But I can say otherwise with the new season, "Hetalia: World Series". I think the animation is better and the animators seems to follow the webcomic more. For now, I'm actually enjoying the new season. :)
