Question regarding the manga and the OVAs

    Greetings,
Newcomer to the forms here (not to mention newcomer to the whole yaoi genre, in truth).

I'm curious because I can't seem to find the manga related to this series. I know Wikipedia says it's loosely based off the manga by Youka Nitta, but when I try to Google the series, I end up with 'Haru o Daiteita' which seems to be about two porn stars ... and that seems to be taking "loosely based" just a tad bit too far.

Anyone know and willing to answer the newbie's question?

    Best,
    Juh.

    Hi, Jun!
In the manga, there's a serious movie being made as part of the "real life" story of our hot lovers. This is that movie.

There never was a separate manga, afaik. Hope you have had a chance to see both anime and have enjoyed reading the classic and hot Haru wo Daiteita!

    I didn't realize you'd only posted today!!!

These threads, at least for older anime, are often pretty quiet. If you are a newcomer to the genre, then have a great time! To me, well developed (and let's face it, good-looking) characters are more important than explicit sex (though that's fun, too!) The best mangaka give us all of it.

IMHO, early yaoi anime are few and not very good except for the original Ai no Kusabi; nothing can come close to that IMO, brilliantly animated as welll as characterized. The seiyuu for Iason was… incredible, and sadly died young.

We're luckier with manga. What other mangaka do you love? My faves in yaoi genre are Yoneda Kou (all her Yakuza stories starting with Don't Stay Gold) and Hidaka Shouko. (Hana wa Saku ka). Yoneda Kou's stories are unrealistic (yakuza…) but hot. Hidaka Shoko's are realisic and sweet. And hot.

Hey, welcome! (I'm a newcomer, too.)

I watched Winter Cicada a few weeks ago and tried looking it up myself, here's the answer for ya -
Yes, it's definitely based on Haru wo Daite Ita. In fact, the relationship is canon - a quick search on Haru wo Daite Ita in Mangafox found the Winter Cicada story in Volume 5, part 4 (it's labelled as being an extra there, I'm not sure if the forum rules will let me link it here but yep definitely check it out). The ending of the OVA and how the story's inserted as an extra in the manga implies that the main characters of Haru wo Daite Ita are the reincarnated selves of Winter Cicada's (born in an era where they can be together ;_; ).

Oh man, I loved Ai no Kusabi! In fact that's how I found this thing, I was searching up stuff because I'm in the middle of reading the novels I don't mind the occasional hardcore one-shot for the funs but that usually only works for me if I don't know the characters and it's short...it may sound a little arrogant but...I actually need a sense of believability to properly enjoy a longer series and if they act out-of-character or unrealistic it really throws me off - well-developed, realistic/equally masculine characters and/or a plot that delves into something deeper is a necessity for me to be properly immersed. Been looking for something as deep as Ai no Kusabi but that's going to be a bit difficult, isn't it? Winter Cicada did come close, though.
