    AntiVirus recommendation (for PC), anyone?

    I'm just looking for solid recommendations of an effective AntiVirus program for PC. I'm using Windows XP, and I've tried a few over the past several years:

    1. Norton AntiVirus (which I will never use again due to enormous bloat & RAM usage);
    2. ZoneAlarm Security Suite (read reviews that made me think it wasn't as good as I'd thought);
    3. AVG (which I have now, but I'm finding mixed reviews about its effectiveness).

    I'm just curious what you think. Can anyone recommend an AV that really works well for you, (preferably one that doesn't suck up too many resources)?

    Giving my thanks in advance!

    I used Zone Alarm for more than a decade, it's very good and effective.
    I'm using Comodo Security, firewall and antivirus for a year, it works really well.

    Wow, thanks a lot, @daniyagami! I'm looking at Comodo's site as I write this. Very much appreciated.

    The best one for free, IMO.

    @Munemasa Katagiri, thank you so much. I don't think I ever heard of Comodo before daniyagami mentioned it. It's great to get a confirmation about it from another person who uses it. Much apreciated!

    Not sure what others would say about avast but I've had no problems with it.

    I also pair avast with Glary Utilities and Malware Bytes to clean off spyware and malware

    I made some serious tests with Avast free edition and it failed miserably...

    If you are careful, you don't even need an antivirus, I use one just in case. That's why I test them with proper softwares, Comodo was the suite with best results till now. Private Firewall is also good but not as friendly and it has no AV, I used Private Firewall along with Avira Free AV for testing, good results.
