My comp can't play all exe and application files

    Dear all,

I am sorry if there is already an existing thread on this.
Please do cancel this thread if there is.

    Someone, please help me.
I left for Kyushu for work for 8 days.
When I returned, I was shocked that I left my laptop switched on for 9 days.
It doesn't go into hibernation since I changed the setting.
Ever since, it refuse to play all exe files. I cannot update any programs. Bluetooth is down. MSN doesn't work.
I cannot play any video as well.

    I did some research.
    Can't open EXE files
This link tells me to go to 'start' and 'run'.
The problem is where 'run' for vista?

Anyone else knows what to do with this?
I don't want to reboot my laptop.

    Thanks.

    1. Right click the Start button
    2. Left Click Properties
    3. Click Customize button in the Start Menu tab
    4. Scroll down and check the checkbox on Run Command
    5. Click OK

now you should see the run command in the start menu again

The shortcut for "RUN" in Vista is <Win Key> + <R>
The Win Key or Windows Key is the button on the keyboard with a Windows Logo on it. It's usually near the Function Key <FN Key> at the bottom. Try pressing that and the Run Window will appear in your screen.
    Hope this will help!

No regedit program?!? That's a huge problem. The only thing I can really suggest is that you boot into your Windows Vista Installation CD and let it repair itself. If you don't have the CD(if Vista came pre-installed in your laptop), then the only thing to do is to let a professional fix it for you. Try taking it to a computer repair store near you

    I hope I helped.

Run prompt as admin and insert the command SFC /SCANNOW
It'll recover modified Windows important files.
Instructions http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...e-checker.html Those are for Windows 7 but work for Vista also.

I shall try that but first of all, how do i run as an admin?
I am sorry. I am really terrible with all these IT stuff.

Maa, if it gets any worse than this, I will just bring it back to Sony an reboot this thing.
My laptop is like the first series of Vaio so it doesn't come with reboot cd.

Turn UAC off, so you won't need to bother running as admin.
