What about SVCD (if that is the correct term x-X)?

hi!~ when you burn it to VCD does the quality of the movie decreases? way back i tried making a VCD out of avi files but its not the same quality as it is in my original file.. does it matter if you dnt have a big capacity video card, or do i need something like a 128/256 MB Vcard to write it to its best quality?
As long as I know is normal to loose some quality because of the conversion, I'm not sure if a good vcard can make any difference.

You can covert into a SVCD with TMPEnc, just open the wizard and choose in the first screen "Super Video Cd" and do all the process.

svcd has more features than a regular vcd but it's bigger in file size than a vcd

But if the subs fits correctly and the problem is after converting the file into mpeg, then you can try using Canopus instead of TMPGEnc, it worked with similar problem in the past.
When I watch them on my pc there is no problem, it is only when I watch them on my tv. Somebody told me it's because my dvd player doesn't have an updated codec. Does that sound possible? If so I'll just go buy a new dvd player!

Thank you so much for the help Mal

Use Canopus before buying a new dvd!

hmm hi i did everything you said, but i have a problem here..when i start the wizard and try to select a video source for conversion, it says blablabla.avi not supported or not found..its in .avi, and when i selecter audio source, it worked fine, although i doubt it's supposed to be that way. im converting the audio source now.....why is that??

    thanks ^^

I'm pretty sure is because a codec is missing.
Make sure you have divx 5.1 bundle and Xvid already installed.

so, do you use normal CD-Rs for this? And they play on your DVD Player?

I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but I kinda am about this stuff.
