I use Photoshop CS2 and I turn on and off the quick mask mode hitting "shift+Q".
Otherwise, in the tools palette there are two little rectangles with a circle inside (see picture): if you want to work in 'standard' mode click on the left one, click on the right one if you want the 'quick mask' mode.
Hope it helps. ^^

I'm using this thread for a mine problem *can I?*.
With my Photoshop CS2 keyboard shortcuts doesn't work. Why?
You can go to 'Edit' --> 'Keyboard shotcuts...' and see if there are any shotcuts active, because Photoshop allowes you to save your own shortcut sets but sometimes it messes with your customizations. ^^;
(This is also a good way to know which shortcut do what. ^^)
thanks so much for everyone's help ^^ actually somehow the mask disappeared by itself o.0 *is confused.. maybe it was the picture ^^;*
I haven't changed the default shortcuts. Since I've installed it they aren't workingand yes, I've got a c.v.;maybe this is the manner.
Also the easiest common shortcuts (like to resize brushes, CTRL+Z to undo,.....) doesn't work. I've to do all by mouse loosing a lot of time
