Angry Black screen start up in Lamento

I've been trying to get Lamento working, I am using a virtual machine running XP so theres pretty much nothing on the computer other than lamento and the OS. I changed the region to japan, and i've have installed it, ran the updates, and i think they worked?

Your region is still not in Japan, else those dialog boxes when you open the updates should have proper JP characters. Ditch the Virtual Machine and just install it on your original OS. I was able to make Lamento work on Win 10.

Or if you still want to play Lamento in VM, then yeaah, fix your locale.

Also, I don't see your No-DVD patch. It is supposed to be a 784 kb .exe file.

    Hello Tarkemelhion!

I agree with monokuroe, if possible, you won't need a virtual machine! But if it's 100% absolutely necessary, you'll need to make sure your virtual computer's System Unicode Locale is set to Japan, not your Region. ^^ Those are two different options.

First, uninstall Lamento, we'll reinstall it later. Then, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start > Control Panel.

    2. Select the Regional and Language Options.

    3. Click the Advanced tab.
(If there is no Advanced tab, then you are not logged in with admin privileges.)

    4. Under the Language for non-Unicode programs section, select "Japanese" from the drop down menu.

    5. Click OK to apply the changes.

A dialog box prompted asking whether to use existing files or to install from the operating system CD. Ensure that you have the installation CD ready.

    6. Follow the instructions to install the files.

    7. Restart the computer after the installation is complete.

Afterwards, here is a guide on how to install Lamento, Step-by step.

If you decide to forego the virtual machine, then you can also just follow this guide.

    Good luck, Tarkemelhion!
