By the way, I downloaded the game HERE. I haven't found any other sources where the links work (some links worked but I had troubles extracting them) so I couldn't check whether this is a download problem :/

Deleted the game from my laptop so now I can't check any wonderful suggestions you guys might come up with >.< The game didn't seem to be in my taste :/ Any suggestions are welcome though! In case anyone else got the same problem! But I won't be able to try them so I apologise in advance! >.<

Edit: *Cries* No matter where I download the first Part from, it seems corrupt. I can extract the IMG files from the RAR, but none of the files ON the IMG are fine. It's like the IMG file itself is corrupt. None of the files on the IMG work.

The second ISO is fine, and even the no_CD EXE "works". I've even downloaded from another mirror I found from a Russian website. o_O; Exact same file.

Oh well... I'm not sure. Maybe I need to use a different Virtual Drive.

--- OK, after installing Daemon Tools and seeing the message, I've figured out what the Error message is about, and how to (kind of) fix it!

TL;DR: Kaitou Jade ("24 hours to steal your heart" ~ The Phantom Thief Jade) is a game from 2004, and uses a special anti-piracy/hacking driver that doesn't work in 64-bit operating systems like Windows Vista/7/8.

Long version (if you care to read):

When that error message popped up for me, I basically took a memory dump (34mb) of the program, looked for the text of the error message in the dump file, and found a filename really close to this error message. It was called "STEC3.SYS".

Kaitou Jade uses a 3rd party anti-piracy/hacking driver named STEC3.SYS, that is supposed to run when the game starts. It was part of a package of tools made in 2004 (also called SKVP.SYS) that were meant to decrypt data for a game/program into a special block of memory that was supposed to make it unhackable.

Unfortunately this is a 32-bit driver so there are a couple of things wrong... #1, The game installs the driver into the wrong directory (cannot find the service!), and #2, 32-bit drivers are unsigned by default, and won't run on 64-bit operating systems that require a signed driver (namely Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8).

There was never a 64-bit version of this driver ever made, so that's a bit of a problem. But, oddly enough, I stumbled across another forum that had similar problems with other H-Games (Maiden Breeder 2 and Rental Girls). A fella by the name of petopeto also fount out about STEC3.sys, found the same 32-bit/64-bit issues, but actually reverse engineered the driver and recoded it to be a 64-bit driver.

This is awesome, but doesn't 100% fix our issue because this 64-bit version is not signed.

For a 64-bit driver to be "Signed", you have to actually pay Microsoft to do this. This is a method of verifying that your driver won't be bad and take over other peoples' computers, or hack/pirate stuff. But if you're making a 64-bit driver to play around with, you can give a driver a "Test Certificate" that lets the driver work on your computer only.

So armed with that knowledge, we can bypass our problems with a bit of a work around! This will be in the next spoiler as it's also fairly lengthy.

So for fixes, here are a few options (or jokes...):

#1, Have a Windows XP computer, period.

#2, Have a Windows 7 Enterprise/Pro computer with a Windows XP Virtual Machine (HAH!)

#3, The somewhat Lengthy process:

#1, Install the game as per usual. Don't worry about running the "jade_NOCD" patch or anything, but make sure you run the game at least once to see this error message. (!Important!)

#2, Download this file (STEC3 - Download - 4shared - Kojiro Sasaki), and extract STEC3.sys to your computer's System32 folder. (Usually C:\Windows\System32\) If your Windows is in a different hard drive, update accordingly.

#3, Download and save this program to your Desktop or somewhere easily accessible: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/62...overrider.html

#4, Run the program from Step #3, allow the program to Run, click on "Next" then "Yes" to accept the terms.

#5, Select "Enable Test Mode" and select "Next", then hit "OK".

#6, Select "Sign a System File" and select "Next", then when the textbox pops up...

#7, Remember where you extracted STEC3.sys? We need it's url/path. If you installed it where you should have, it should be something like: C:\Windows\System32\STEC3.sys (Copy this text, then paste it into the text box now) and hit "Ok".

#8, The program will now "Sign" the driver to work on your computer, only, and for only as long as "Test Mode" is enabled through the dseo13b program. Close the program, but don't disable Test mode! Leave Test Mode Enabled.

#9, Restart your computer (VERY IMPORTANT, you NEED to do this). Restarting your computer will force Windows to load the driver we just signed.

#10, Run "jade.exe" ! It should now work!

If my 10-step process above is still too confusing, I'll try my best to explain, but there ya go! I got it to work and run on my computer now, Windows 7-Home (64-bit).

... Now if I can just get Microsoft Security Essentials to stop eating my NOCD patched version of the game whenever I try to patch it. e_e It keeps being quarantined from being modified. ... Then again, the game runs as long as the first disc is mounted. I'll just have to keep it mounted when I play, like Togainu no Chi. Not too big of a deal...
